In a population study for malaria are collected over past few yrs,the numbers of case reported were

20,5000,100,80,60,70,40,60,80.

The average best is represented by :

a. arithmetic mean

b. median

c. geometric mean

d. mode

explain me the thinknin also

I think it should be median. Due to extreme value of 5000 mean would be skewed and there are many terms recurring to make mode safe.

ok i understand that mean is not reliable

but y not mode....so if many terms recur mode is not safe?

i think ifmean is not applicable then median is the next best epidemiological measure....mode is not used

Mode doesnt have mathematical properties (mean and median have) which makes it unsuitable to use in inferential statistics. Median is more stable than the mean (in cases of extreme values) but is less robust than mean for statistical analysis.
