Quick Scroll Q: Question behavioral science 12.02.05 (2 years ago) #1

A physician in a hospital overhears three residents talking in an elevator. A says to B ," How could you make such a mistake. You knew that your patient was allergic to penicillin and the drug you prescribed cross reacts with penicillin." C comments, " Now he has rash all over, hope he doesn't get serious problems." What is the best thing the physician should do in this case?

A Ignore the conversation and carry on with his work.

B Talk to residents and tell them that such discussions about patient should be kept confidential and not to be discussed in elevators.

C Go to the patient in ward and review his charts.

D Confront the resident involved and suggest him to report it as an adverse drug reaction.

E Report to hospital authorities about the adverse drug reaction himself.

Quick Scroll answer is d 12.02.05 (2 years ago) #2

answer should be D.
similar question appears in the kaplan notes..check.

i'm quoting the explanation verbatim" the dual goals of training the residents and making sure the patient gets the information need to be met here. the issue is not to reprimand , but to teach the residents."

the same rule shud apply here, hence the answer
