There is a minute, but clear difference between the "Earliest diagnosis" and "Evidence of recent infection". To diagnose the hepatitis B at the earliest, the best thing is to go for HBsAg, while HBcIgM appears later than it, but if present, is an important marker of recent infection, while its absence and presence of HbcIgG denotes a remote infection. In contrast, the patient may be HBsAg +ve for years together, even after the convalescence from the acute disease, but this is the first marker to appear on the first contact with the infection. I hope, it would be helpful.
