I am a SHO working in UK and had applied for jobs in Australia
. i have 5 years of experience in orthopaedics without post graduate degree or diploma. i have neither passed MRCS
or achieved academically since graduation except experience.
i have been offered a job of PHO in orthopaedics and i was told that i am expected to do procedures like nailing of long bones and hip fixations.
I would like to know the job description of PHO and what is expected of him.
thanks

Hello everyone,
Just need some advice from people who ve been there and done that.I ve been working in A&E in a small town in Australia
for the last 9 mths.I feel as if i should move on and wanted some advice on whether i should look for work as a g.p. or try the amc way of hospital training ,looking for work as a intern.I ve given my mcq exam this nov. and i would need to clear my clinicals ,look for intern post in hospitals and if I wanted to further specialize in something ,I think I am looking at 8-9 years at the least.I no longer wish to live in a small town as social life can be nonexistent. So I m definitely looking to move to a city.So if any one has any advice ,it would be really appreciated.Thanx.

Hi all, I am little confused and i need some advise especially from guys who are already working in Australia
. I am currently workin as a SHO in General Surgery in UK and have been offered an extension. I have 2yrs post MBBS exp in india, 6months of A&E in UK and would have had a yr in General Surgery in UK. I have passed my MRCS
1&2. I want to pursue a career in General / ColoRectal surgery.
I know the situation in UK is getting worse with every passin day, esp with the MMC, training jobs are difficult to come by... even if i do manage to get training jobs in UK and get my CCBST i wont get a training Reg Numbered Post.... the future for Overseas Doctors is Staff Grade or Assos specialists. I had an interview with Latitude yday and they offered me a yrs SHO rotation, where i gotta work in medicine, ITU/ ED(emergency depart) and surgery in Queen Elizabeth 2 Jubilee Hospital in Brisbane....
I now want to know what is the future from there.?.. i was told to get thru AMC and then i'm eligible for surgical rotations... how easy is it to get on to a surgical rotation? Are the posts over there recognised over here in UK, as in if i dont like it over there and decide to come back then will it be easy? I could have gone in feb but i'm stayin so that i get my full reg with the GMC.
should i go to Oz or should i wait for some more time in UK and try my luck? Please Advice

Dear doctor _bab,
Dont wanna discourage you, but what I have seen regarding the surgical field in Australia
is that unless u ve passed ur AMC, its not easy to get access to surgical branch
I must also say that even if u have passed AMC, u myt still need to work as a medic before u get surgery that too compromising the hospital
But I have seen cases where indian are employed in surgical branch here
Having said that, I have seen many surgeons working in medicine and Psychiatry
as well
Hope i made the scenario little clear, though I think I confused u
But, this is a fact about surgery

thanx for a quick reply. they had actually offered me a PHO job in general surgery, which involves doin a rota of a reg... i declined as i need a BST at SHO level. she said that i wud go on to pho in surgery after a year, if i pass the amc or not.... i dunno, it was too good to be true... do u know anyone workin in brisbane better still in QE2? do u know of any one who got on to a surgical rotation and stuff? let me know... thanx
