Quote:
Binding of an antigen to the immunoglobulin receptor delivers the 1st signal to the B cell, which is usually insufficient.

For a second signal costimulatory molecules are required; the most important of which is antigen specific T cells.

1st the hapten is recognized by immunoglobulin receptor,

the hapten-carrier is then brought to the B cell and processed.

the peptide fragments of this carrier protein presented to a helper T cell.

Activation of the T cell results in the production of cytokines that enable the hapten-specific B cell to become activated to produce soluble anti-hapten antibodies.

Quote:
The superantigens bypass the step 2!

i.e., they can activate the T cells directly.

These antigens need not be processed by B cells to make it presentable to the T cells

Quote:
In EB virus infection, the B cells gets activated directly.

This activation is independent of the T cells (as described above),therby the EB infected cells become immortal,as they no longer depend on cytokines for its activation.
