also --sleeping beauty--pls note that--

a distinguishing point b/n extrinsic allergic alveolitis...and cryptogenic pul fibrosis--is that clubbing is seen in crypogenic pul fibrosis..but not in extrinsic allergic alveolitis.

this fact was also tested in a recent paper.
even though both show alveolar fibrosis--this feature is different,clinically...

i didnt know...may be this cd be useful for u ,too

Causes of clubbing

Thoracic causes;
. Bronchial carcinoma
. Chronic lung supuration--empyema,abscess,bronchiectasis,cystic fibrosis
. Cryptogenic Fibrosing alveolitis
. Mesothelioma
. Asbestosis
. Tuberculosis

GI causes;
. Inflamatory bowel disease(esp.crohn's)
. Cirhosis of liver
. GI Lymphoma
. Malabsorption, eg Coeliac

Cardiac;
. Cyanotic congenital heart disease.
. Endocarditis
. Atrial myxoma

Rare;
. Familial
. Thyroid acropachy


Causes of uni-lateral
. Axillary artery aneurysm
. brachial arterio-venous malformations

if present in COPD,shud look for an underlying
malignancy(bronchial carcinomas)
