Weakest portion of the orbit is the thin orbital floor (maxilla) and the lamina papyracea (ethmoid bone) medially and inferiorly.

Blow-out fractures most commonly involve the
1)orbital floor medial to the infraorbital nerve
2) and the lower one-half ofthe medial orbit, the thin lamina papyracea of the ethmoidbone.

These two areas form the weakest portion of the orbit

i will go for the floor... blow out fractures more common in the floor... rather than medial wall.. in x ray u can see a hanging drop sign.... indicating the orbital contents protruding down in the maxillary sinus!!!

the weakest wall is medial wall ....the lamina papyracea. because the floor of orbit is fractured in blow out fractures commonly does not mean its the weakest wall!

ref:Plast Reconstr Surg. 1999 Jun;103(7):1839-49.
Pure orbital blowout fracture: new concepts and importance of medial orbital blowout fracture.

Burm JS, Chung CH, Oh SJ.

Pure orbital blowout fracture first occurs at the weakest point of the orbital wall. Although the medial orbital wall theoretically should be involved more frequently than the orbital floor, the orbital floor has been reported as the most common site of pure orbital blowout fractures

this suggests that weakest part is the medial wall!the lacrimal bone and lamina papyracea!

the increased incidence of floor fractures are due to the biomechanics of injury!....
