Which grade of registrar you get in Australia
(MPL 1-8)?

Hey guys, the forum is doing great. Thanks to some lovely contributors. Hi plabotomy, its been a long time since we exchanged information.
Overseas Doctors going to Australia
through either AON (specialists and non specialists) or Assessment exemption pathway finally have to get into the registrar post. From what I know there are various levels . MPL 1-8. After MPL8 u become a consultant. Depending on your experience and CV you enter the training program at various level.
My question is for anyone to explain what these various grades are? What does MPL stand for and how do u progress from one to another? How does the pay differ? Finally, when are you allowed to write the fellowship exams?
I understand this doesnt hold good for specialists with lots of years of experience in good hospitals of India. They directly become consultants after clearing an interview or an exam and gettin a fellowship.
Guys, please contribute to this.

Hmm, Can't find anything regarding this. Maybe you'll want to check out the Australian GP training or the GP registrars Australia
website. It might clear up some of your queries.

Well, many replies in one day. good.
BTW, yes I did leave the ''area of need" to be dealt by plabotomy. My knowldege was very sparse. new_doc, no problems with that joke.
MPL levels are similar to our years in PG. Now, when specialists from India go there either through AON or assessment exemption pathway, he/she enters into one of these levels to compete the training requirements of the college to consider training to be equivalent to aus training. Depending on experience people have entered 2 or 3 or even 8. Some have even skipped this and become consultants. I have not been able to talk to one of my friends who got into MPL 8 which is one level below the consultant.
I request friends in Australia
to check out with their friends about this and help us in this forum.
I have found out that visa procedures, esp getting it for many years is quite easy through AON rather than assessment exemption. The difference being that u are in a rural area compared to what happens in assessment pathway. But there is doesnt seem to be much difference in the so called rural area and hte urban area according to some. This is preliminary information. Shall post a separate thread once I am clear about these issues.
