Quick Scroll Visa for AMC Exam 12.22.05 (2 years ago) #1

Hi everyone! This thread will basically give us information regarding what type of visa you will need to be able to take the AMC exam, particularly the Part 1.

If you're not going to work or migrate to Australia at the time you're going to take the AMC MCQ exam, you may apply for the Tourist visa, subclass 676.

A Tourist visa can be applied for from outside Australia (offshore) or in Australia . Generally a Tourist visa will be granted for a stay of 3 months or 6 months, but in certain circumstances a stay of 12 months may be granted.

For offshore applicants, a Tourist visa allows:
a stay of up to 12 months, depending on the reason for your visit and your ability to support yourself during your stay in Australia

For onshore applicants, a Tourist visa allows:

a total stay of up to 6 months from the date the applicant last entered Australia on their ETA (Visitor) or Tourist visa, subclass 676 if lodging an electronic application over the Internet; or
a total stay of up to 12 months if lodging a paper application at an office of the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA).

When I've applied for this visa, it only took a week/ 5 working days for the processing. But it may depend on your country of origin. You generally don't need to have medical examinations done on you if you're only going there for the exam, ie. less than 3 months. It is best to browse through the site of the Australian embassy in your country as the fees and other requirements may differ. I think at this point, you will have to ready your passport pictures, passport, AMC letter indicating that you are to take and exam (although this is optional, but it's best to send all documents so that processing will be smooth), and other documents. Processing will be delayed if required documents are incomplete.

There's also this visa, much like the Tourist visa, but applied electronically, meaning from the internet.
It's the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), subclass 976 (ETA Visitor)

The ETA is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia for short-term visits or business entry. The ETA differs from a normal visitor visa in that there is no application form to fill in and no visa label or stamp in the passport.

The ETA is available to passport holders from 34 countries and regions.

Holders of Taiwan passports can only be processed for an ETA if resident in and applying in Taiwan.
** Holders of UK passports which indicate their nationality to be British National (Overseas) can only be processed for an ETA if resident in and applying in Hong Kong.

To apply for an ETA (Visitor), you must be outside Australia and hold a passport issued by an ETA-eligible country or region.

An ETA (Visitor) allows a person to stay in Australia for up to 3 months on each arrival within 12 months from the date of the grant.

i've just started my journey towards the amc exam...
i want to check if my plan is right.
1-take IELTS
2-take amc-1 offshore in dubai
3-apply for some kind of visa to be in Australia for taking the part 2 but my problem is that i dont know what makes u eligible for the tourist visa 676? (i'm from iran, can i ask where r u from?) what conditions can add to my chance of getting 12 months tourist visa?
thx

Hi Sara,

AMC does not require IELTS in order to be eligible for the examination anymore.

A tourist visa is a visa for 3 months only (may be extended to 6 months, or you may get a multiple tourist visa-- meaning, you can travel to Australia many times within the 12 month period but you must only stay in Australia for a maximum of 3 months per entry).

It is not possible to get a continuous 12 month tourist visa-- it does not exist, whatever country you're from.

Best bet if you want to stay longer in Australia is to study (on a student visa), to work (employer sponsored), or if you have a family member living in Australia which will sponsor your stay.

Regards.
