Quick Scroll Analysis: CS visas - Latest Trends and Limitations 12.27.05 (2 years ago) #1

Can anyone post the latest info on CS visas? How is the trend? Is it a viable option?Apart from the usual criteria of good communication skills, clear plans and strong reasons to return..are there any other hassles in this particular visa?
What are the limitations of this route?
Thanx for any contributions..
shriya

hi,
shriya,

visa is always a matter of chance.u cannot predict.

it's better not to think too MCh about it and try our luck,'cos we don't have any other option, what do u say?

I agree with you..but I was wondering if compared to earlier CS visas are more easily given now.
Also..though chance plays an unfortunately big role..we can put in our bit..like practising the questions asked commonly, compiling the right documents etc.But ultimately..like u say..we cant predict anything icon_smile.gif

I did not know that CS visas were being given though..so I took the GRE route. But thats equally unpredictable again !

Quick Scroll hi again shriya 12.28.05 (2 years ago) #4

well wrk was rite and ur partly correct too!,
but there is a hike in cs visas this year i donno how much but its a solid news !

GRE route for us is a very costly affair and longgggg route !

this year my two frends who already wrote GRE and got gud scores too were rejected visas!
the second of them got really gud score some were 1330 r so but still rejected!

yaar i'm not discouraging GRE route but still i prefer cs visa route .
earlier i was planning to write GRE but drss gave me guidance abt this now i'm thank full to him abt this!and also to some extent ashb too!

hey!shriya

what makes u say GRE route is equally unpredictable. GRE visa is f1 visa and why would they reject GRE visa. don't u agree that chances of getting the GRE visa is much much more than the cs visa?

Hi Work,
very honestly, I have no clue about CS visas..I do know something about the GRE visas though..Only 70-75 % of people applying get F1 visas in first try.During F1 ( GRE route ) visa interview, they look for these things :
1. you shud be accepted by a US college - have an I-20
2.you shud be financially independent..as shown by ur property & savings documents
3. you should CONVINCE them you will come back to India after ur course (MPH or MS)..as demonstrated by strong ties ..like
a. family buisiness here
b. spouse / children in India
c. offer letter of a job on return from a reputed institution etc
d. extensive property in India!
these are only some of the aspects..
The reasons commonly people r rejected F1 visa..is if
1. the university they r going to is very very mediocre or low grade
2. funds not sufficient ..finnacial papers not in order
3. communication skills very bad..bad english etc.
4. history of other family members who have immigrated to US recently
5. inability to convince them of ur intentions to study there
6. poor scores and academics

None of these by itself is a limiting factor..Its the overall interview and how well u convince them about ur intentions to go as a student and return after the course ( which r actually not our intentions icon_wink.gif

Its a good idea to compare plus n minus points of GRE n CS visa route..it may help those who hav not yet decided..I can write about the GRE route..maybe sravya can do both GRE n CS visas..

ADVANTAGES OF GRE ROUTE

1. greater chance of getting a VISA ( ? )
2. Another degree in addition to MBBS..being a US degree it dus add towards a better match during residency
3. Easier to get an observorship during ur course..especially if a hospital is attached to the university u r applying to
4.Chance to do a project or research in US which will count towards a better match
5. You will get used to the US way of communication and hence may do well in residency interviews
6. As u will be living in US while applying..u may save a little on the fone costs, mailing costs and travelling costs if u have other IMGs or other contacts in the interview areas..(?)
Some of these are slightly silly points icon_smile.gif

DISADVANTAGES

1. More money
7K FOR GRE
7K FOR TOEFL
~ 30 K FOR APPLYING
~ 3-5 LAKHS for first semster fees till u get an assistantship ( can get thru education loans )

2. More time..
You have to spare 1-2 yrs for the additional degree

3. Frustration
if u choose a field u dont like..if u choose a degree u dont want at all..but are doing just as a stepping stone..most of the time though..u can find atleast one nonclinical field u can enjoy exploring for a year or two.

4. VISA not 100 % guaranteed after all this investment

5.You may see your classmates and juniors get CS visas n match a year before you do icon_smile.gif

thats all i can think of at the moment..everyone..plz add to the list..thanx

Hi dsha..
looks like this isnt a very interesting thread after all;) not too many posts..i think this thread will only help those who havnt yet decided between GRE route and CS visa route..for those who have already decided and planned their exam schedule accordingly, the best thing is to stick to that plan because I feel both have their merits and its really difficult to put one option above the other..just go by what works for you..consider ur finances, temperament, preferred year for match, seniors' advice and the risks you are willing to take.and after u decide..just stick to it..its a difficult process as it is..without further dilemmas of indecisiveness icon_wink.gif
good luck..
