this is very simple,

1)GRIPS
2)congratulate the patient on her pregnancy.
3)take a bit of diabetic history.. how long, which medicine she is using now,
4)talk about the following:
a)regular eye checks... needs at least five in whole of pregnancy and more if she has retinopathy, may need treatment for it... dont' go in detail about treatment just that she needs eye checks
b)needs careful monitoring of blood glucose.. ask her how is she testing it now.. she will need to monitor at home, a nurse will teach her and also needs to come to clinic for regular hospital blood glucose checks and so that doctor can discuss her test results with her
c)she needs to take folic acid, vitamins etc as with all pregnancy
d)ask her if she is smoking and ask her about alcohol.. both can affect blood glucose control.. and affect the baby.. she needs to stop especially as she is a diabetic.. we will get specialist quit teams to help you.
e)tell her about monitoing of the baby, she needs to come for regular checks so we can see how baby is growing and check baby's heart and do a scan to make sure all is ok.
f)MEDICINE... is she on oral hypoglycemics.. she will need insulin, you will teach her how
g)BLOOD PRESSURE.. is it raised.. she will need regular BP checks and possibly medicine.
go to..
