Training in Surgery in the UK is not easy .... even with the MRCS
part 1.... or even with a complete MRCS
.

what are the chances/oppurtunities of an overseas trained doctor (non-uk non-eu) to train in surgery in the uk. i heard there is very stiff competition and its very difficult for foreign doctors to train in sugery. if so how can one increase the chances?

I believe
The chances for getting into Surgical training in the UK are 1:1000...
There are NO OPPORTUNITUIES for training for the Overseas Medical graduate without any rights to live and work here!
One can increase chances by completing the MRCS
, having international publications/Research/Audits, years of NHS experience and most important having Permanent Residence in the UK

Training in UK --- Well, i would say, for overseas graduates who have an intense desire to get hands-on training UK is not the right place. I have been there post PLAB
for 8 months doing clinical attachments but nothing worked out.
Even after completing MRCS
, there are many UK and overseas graduates still doing SHO jobs(which are very difficult to get into) waiting to get into Registrar post, which is a very tight bottle neck. You need to have research publications/ audits, and NHS experience (as Munish pointed out). Recently home office has come up with regulations that have almost closed the gate for overseas graduates - i think u might me aware of.
So, in my opinion amidst all these if u still want to work in the UK, ur intention has to be money only.
My well wishers in UK and i feel that India is the best place for surgical training and to work with a sense of job satisfaction though u might get paid less.
But after a few years u have become a skilled surgeon when money automatically will come in search of u.
Thats it.
Sorry if i have bored u folks
UK ASPIRANTS ( SURGEONS) KINDLY NOTE THIS WARNING

I think the discussion has been very harsh.
There must be a way to become surgeon in UK.
what about the new foundation system isntit givng a better practice and shorten time?

I don't think the discussion is harsh. I prefer to write facts down as they are....
There is are very good ways of becoming a Surgeon in the UK....
One of the best ways is to become a Surgeon in your own country and complete the MRCS
alongside and then try and get into registrar level training here...
After completing 4 years of that you can take the FRCS and become a Surgeon in the UK!
As far as foundation is concerned.... the biggest trouble is trying to get into one...
The prority goes this way...
1 UK Med school grads
2 EEA Med school grads
3 Overseas grads with indefinite Right to live and work in UK
4 HSMP etc
5 Overseas grads on visitors or other temporary visas....
But getting into foundation isn't the end of the story... you will continue to compete based on your nationality and immigration status throughout your training... So that virtually means that the Doctors in group 5 will never complete their training in Surgery...
I can say that confidently because Surgery is a Speciality where 1/3rd of UK grads hope to get into.
Would like hear your views abubakre

What Munish feels is absolutely true. Reg the foudation programme, its very very difficult to get into one. Even this programme looks good for only fresh grads....
You might be able to complete the training programme fast...if u manage to get into one...but i personally feel the quality of training in UK does not stand anywhere near training in India...
