A surgical procedure to elongate a contracted scar or to rotate tension 90°, in which the middle line of the Z-shaped incision is made along the line of greatest tension or contraction, and triangular flaps are raised on opposite sides of the two ends and then transposed.

The redistribution of tension on the wound provided by Z-plasty can be very helpful when dealing with a contracted scar or with a scar near aesthetic units, such as the medial canthus or oral commissure.

icon_arrow.gif Z-plasty is an effective method of wound irregularization.

Since straight-line scars draw attention easily, multiple Z-plasties can break up the scar into smaller units, making the scar less noticeable.

icon_arrow.gif Limiting/preventing contracture of linear scars, especially when they cross the border of a facial aesthetic unit (eg, vermillion border) or when scars cross a concave surface (eg, the medial canthus)

icon_arrow.gif Changing scar length (eg, scar contracture of lip, eyelid, or neck)

icon_arrow.gif Changing scar vector (eg, repositioning a scar across the nasolabial fold)

icon_arrow.gif Repositioning malposed tissues (useful for “trapdoor” or "pin-cushion" defects)

icon_arrow.gif Effacing web/release contracture (similar to first listed use)

icon_arrow.gif Closing cutaneous defects (eg, large oval defects, pharyngocutaneous fistulae)

Z- plasty is done in all of the above condition.
infact it is used more often to lengthen a linear contracture.
60 degree angle Z plasty produces a 75% increase in length.

Kalika are you sure of the choices??

if at all it is correct and you want best possible answer go for post burn contracture.
Z Plasty though done in post burn linear contracture, it is difficult and often impossible if surrounding skin is also scarred. as Z-plasty lengthening depends on the skin elasticity of the surrounding area. Also in burned skin it is better to do "S"-lasty to avoid necrosis of the tip of the flap.
