Well if you are intersted solely in medical research and not in clinical practice as mentioned by you, then MMST (at IIT Kharagpur) is definitely an option (in fact its one of the best options in India for a doctor). You can see the details in my posts in the MMST forum.

Alternatively, you can do ur MD/PHD offered in various US institutes, but that would require you to clear your GRE and MCAT, and prefrably USMLE .

There is also an option to apply for PHD in biomedical engg directly in the US after your MBBS, you will need to clear your GRE for that.

In India there are PHDs offered by various places like NBRC, TIFR, NCBS to name a few, where it is possible (but difficult!) to get ur PHDs after MBBS, and some quality research is going on at these places. Do take some time out and visit your websites, and if you orient yourself towards a specfic feild now, u will go heights!

All the best!

Hi vicky

if u r not interested in clinical practise, n wan2 do research then it s better u try fot it in the us by writting GRE (general) or subject of interest GRE called subject GRE , TOEFL go to US. get into a PHD programme, either 5 yrs research or 2 yrs MS in public health, one of the best universities to offr research is UMICH that is university of michigan, one prof named prof John Tesmer is heading the pharmac team now which is doin research on G proteins which are helpful in signal transduction, like this many other profs are there.

now u may say why US?

i say us bcoz the technology there is far ahead than here unless u get to do ur research in IISC bangalore or one of the premier institutions. ok.

have fun
more details u need post a reply

Arjun
