q 33 diagnosis of muscle weakness
options A Syringomyelia B Charcot-Marie Tooth C SCD of cord D MS E Bell’s palsy F GB syn G Poliomyelitis H. Motor neurone disease I Dermatomyositis J Polymylgia rheumatica K SLE
1. A 45 y/o woman presents with a purple (heliotrope) rash on her cheeks and eyelids and insidious symmetrical, proximal muscle weakness.
2. A 40 y/o woman presents with diplopia on lateral gaze, nystagmus, paresthesiae, and muscle weakness. CSF from the LP reveals oligoclonal bands and an increase in IgG.
3. A 30 y/o man presents a week after an upper respiratory tract infection with paresthesiae which rapidly develops to flaccid paralysis of the lower limbs. The csf from the LP shows very high protein but no white cells.
4. A 25 y/o man presents with flaccid paralysis of the legs with loss of reflexes. He reports recovering from a mild upper respiratory inf but then developing meningitis. The CSF shows raised protein and increased lymphocytes.
5. A 35 y/o man presents solely with palsy of the left side of his face including his forehead. His otological exam and other cranial nerves are normal.
