The choice of drugs for children is considerably restricted, and only drugs that have been extensively tested in children should be used. This commonly means that only aspirin, naproxen, or tolmetin should be prescribed. However, the association of Reye's syndrome in children with the administration of aspirin for the treatment of febrile viral illnesses precludes its use in this setting.

The safest NSAID is ibuprofen. Other NSAIDs have failed to demonstrate consistently greater efficacy or safety than ibuprofen. The safety and efficacy of ibuprofen in children have not been established (Goodman & Gilman)

Based on the comprehensive review and analyses of available data, although ibuprofen is the safest of the NSAIDs there appears to be a dose-related risk for GI and renal adverse events. However, at OTC doses of 1200 mg/day or less, the risks appear negligible and there is a relatively wide therapeutic window to the commonly used prescription doses of 2400 - 3200mg/day. ( A review in FDA by International Ibuprofen Society)

This is all the info I could gather. I think it is a controversial issue and we may have to decide by case based on EBM.

But as a conclusion - I will go for ibuprofen

Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is not a true anti-inflammatory.
Nimuslide is not safe is children.

diclofenac has been used much with greated effect as anti-pyretic not ANTI-INFLAMMATORY.

Ibuprofen has been used as anti-inflammatory to great effect in Cystic fibrosis and other diseases also.
