Quick Scroll FAQ: What visa status will a honorary SHO get? 01.24.06 (2 years ago) #1

Hello every one!
I am new to this community and start off my mails by asking a question first. I have been awarded a honorary clinical status as a SHO. What visa should I apply for as we know that PFT is not given for Honorary SHO?
A quick reply would be appreciated.

hi,
I would first of all suggest, u don't apply for visa on the basis of hon SHO. I had called the home office regarding this, and they were not sure what visa could b given( definitely not a PFT, and probably not a clinical attachment visa, said they would think about what visa could be given after I apply). So, I would advise u to apply ur visa on the basis of Clinical Attachment. If possible get a letter from ur medical staffing with a clinical attachment contract for the same period as ur Hon SHO contract. Apply for visa with the clinical attachment contract. High chances of getting a visa on the clinical attachment contract.
If u r doing otherwise let me know of the outcome of what visa u were granted. Please do reply.

On a Honorary SHO post you will be granted a visitiors visa extention if you came to UK on a visitors visa for PLAB . (same as for clinical attachment). The duration of your extention would be the duration of your contract.
There's nothing as a clinical attachment visa... It's called Further Leave to Remain Or simply you can call it a visitors visa extention.
The chances and getting a visa on a clinical attachment and honorary SHO are the same.

And yes do let us know your outcome. Good luck.

Things have changed. Currently there is a separate visa called Clinical Attachment visa, which could be given for even one year if u can show an attachment contract for one year.

You are 'spot on postplab'.
I wish I had taken your advice! I went in with the honorary SHO letter to the visa office in Liverpool and they asked me for the letter from the PG Dean. The PG dean had earlier refused to give a letter saying that Honoray is not a training post.
Now I am left with the option of taking a clinical attachment letter for visa extension.
I got my GMC registration done based on the honorary contract but it is of no use as I do not have a permit free status.
My visa appointment is on the 2nd FEb and that is last day! Any ideas how long is the grace period?
Am really tensed.
will keep you posted.

Hi,
Don't worry !! Just get the Clinical Attachment contract for the same period and u'll be granted ur visa. Just for ur information, the grace period concept has been removed. There is no grace period. Go through home office website for confirmation. Everything will be fine. Don't worry. U still got the last day.

Thank you folks!
I got my visa extended on the "n"th hour on the basis o clinical attachments. i had to surrender my Hony.SHO letter in lieu of clinical attachment.Thats the painful part as my staffing did not allow me to keep both the letters.
now i am left with a GMC registration but with no work permit. Can you people suggest any thing with which I can proceed further/
Thanks in advance.
I will definitely spread the word to the community that one should not apply for visa on the basis of Hony.SHO without a letter from the dean.
if you get that then u r lucky! The deans have not specific instructions not to allow letters for
1.as an when locums
2. locums for less than 3 months
3. Honorary posts.
that effectively eals the fate of newcomers doesn't it?
give it a thought

Hi,
"now i am left with a GMC registration but with no work permit."
That's true. cause I have suffered the same fate. This is the reason it will be very difficult for the newcomers after passing PLAB . And the bad thing is most of them who r coming here don't know about this new change.
