Quick Scroll About MAHE and MANIPAL Hospital 02.05.06 (2 years ago) #1

dear friends,
please help me on this.

1. How credible is this institute MAHE and how good is its hospital?

2. .Is MAHE just another private institute, like ANNAMALAI UNIVERSITY,SRMC Chennai and some private colleges in Karnataka, which fleeces its students demanding 20++ lacs for MD/MS courses??

3. Are the MD/MS courses at MAHE MCI RECOGNISED??

4. About the hospital- where is it located??one or two hospitals??about the patient inflow. Are the number of patients{op and ip} high enough to allow a proper exposure for the PG students?

5. Studying and working in a Government college and hospital{eg the chennai GH} has its own merits. The op is free.so naturally we get a tremendous exposure.the IP is also free.so PG students can handle the inpatients right from admission till discharge on their own with minimal interference from the unit chief or assistants.naturally we grow in experience. In a private institute like MAHE both OP and IP are charged.so the doctors treating them cannot possibly leave the entire case in the hands of the PG student. It is because they are answerable to the patients' relatives in case something went wrong.Iam not saying that the patients going to a GH are not entitled to an explanation. The point Iam trying to stress here is such a risk taking behaviour, which is necessary in a medical college, is much less in a private paying hospital.Consequently our exposure is bound to be limited compared to students from a government college.Dear friends is my assessment reasonably correct?please provide your valuable inputs.

6. MAHE is charging around 3.5 lacs per annum as course fees. That works out to around 10.5 lacs for the 3 years of an MD/MS course.Does this include the hostel fees??For this 10.5 lacs, how does the cost-benefit ratio work out for MAHE compared to the 20++ lacs demanded as capitation fees by some other private colleges. Also how does the ratio compare to a government college. In a GH in TamilNadu it is just 1.2 lacs in addition to better exposure. Here I ask whether it is advisable to go for PG this year itself in MAHE {if i get it} or to wait for one more year for getting into a government college{if i don't get it this year itself},taking into consideration my above mentioned ideas about fees and experience.?Please help

7.Ok if MAHE is a good teaching hospital and its fee structure is legal, give the names of other similar private institutions in india who conduct a genuine entrance and charge a just fees.not like SRMC and ANNAMALAI.

Thanking you

Hi Guys
Im currently doing my MBBS from Manipal..
and i am in my final year now..
As far as i know this place its a heaven for students be it any branch!!
As you guys are worried about Adequate patient Exposure and all its very variable as i will tell you now..
Actually in Manipal it depends on which stream you chose to do your PG in coz
In the department of surgery there are absolutely not much of patients!!!! Even though the Udupi govt district hospital is run by MAHE !!!
The department of medicine is by far the best if you plan to do PG in Internal Medicine. the Professors are good and there are lots of patients..
Otherwise rest all departments are fine and its not that horrible!!! i assure you!!!
By the way paeds is also good!!!

All the best and try haard!!
