Ok guys here goes
My case GMAT 700, doing MBA
from one of the most reputed MBA
school having one of the best Health sector management prog. as well.
I did not give CAT, and yes work experience is required but in my case was an exception I had just about 9 months of work ex while applying but had tons of leadership experience and roles. It basically is not the quantity but quality of work exp.
The things required for MBA
from top US B school is Your application essays, which give a face to your application, Your GMAT score, your recos, your interview, your past grades, and your resume. MBA
is US is very very different from that in India.
In India they teach you how to work and in US the emphasis is on managing, work as well as personnel and thats why work is required and recommended.
And I went to a med school in Bombay.

Well I do know that every year many doctors go to IIM, but trust me there are bigger, wider pastures than just IIMs.
Many people in my current school are from IIMs and coming for their second MBA
here.
Usually the competition is assumed to be less for doctors, but again I dont have any first hand experience. Every MBA
school tries to include diversity in its class and hence doctors, lawyers, writers, etc, etc.
And I personally dont know any medicos from any IIM.

how does a degree in health care adminstration differ from an MBA
with a concentration in the health sector?
does it make a difference in amount of money u earn after completing the course?
also how feasible is a MHA

Well Yes it does. MBA
is a much wider degree and you can do finances, marketing, consulting or anything you can imagine. You can be an I banker, a venture capitalist, work for non profit the possibilities are immense.
Doing just an MHA
you restrict yourselves to hospitals. So it depends what you want to do. MHA
with MBA
is a good option but again I think its redundant. Why would you want to do MHA
when you are already doing an MBA
and can go and work for a hospital or even a clinic if you want to.
Money is a good question. I assume money with MHA
comes with a ceiling but with MBA
sky is the limit. Also a lot depends where you do it from. But rest assured dont let money be the entire focus of your efforts. At end of the day you'll get what you are worth. Money would definitely come if you are good.

Hello!
It was indeed nice to get a reply from you. :)
If you dont mind answering may I ask which B school your currently enrolled? Can you elaborate further on kind of work experience you had, I mean what kind of job it was? How did you study for GMAT? how easy is it to get US visa for pursuing MBA
?
sorry for putting in so many queries at one go and they are not yet finished.
thanks!

i understand..if one does MBA
with a concentration in health care then one isnt limited only to hospitals...one can venture out into pharma companies etc. as u mentioned....but i thnk even wid an MHA
degree u have options in insurance firms etc. but yes its a little difficult.....
i plan to do the dual MHA
/MBA
degree.....its feasible only if i do it from a gud univ which has gud ranking of both the MHA
& the MBA
program...
i spoke to the MHA
faculty of a few univs during my interview but they couold not offer me a concrete answer for the economic feasibility part. but they said that their students who had gone for the dual degree were happy that they had done it....
i was hoping u mite b able to throw some light on the situation from the point of view of a student...
i think yr market value increases when u r an MBA
...but yes...it makes a lot of difference which univ u do it from...
but hey tks a lot for the info u have given....
pls post if u have any more info...
best regards
saumya
