A sign used in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis. Pressure over the descending colon causes pain in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen

ROVSING'S SIGN
pain in rt lower quadrant when pressure is exerted in left lower quadrant. also k/a referred rebound tenderness.


PSOAS SIGN
patient lie on left side. examiner extends patient's rt thigh, thus streching the iliopsoas muscle leading to pain.
this is + in retrocaecal appendicitis.

OBTURATOR TEST
passive internal rotation of flexed rt thigh with the patient in supine position will elicit pain.
this is + in pelvic appendicitis.


MURPHY'S TRIAD
pain + vomitting + temp.

if vomiting precedes pain then the diagnosis can be questioned!!!!!
