" and demand for a similar thread about surgical seats, we are now starting inviting everyone to say a few words about the MS Surgery in your college. We are hoping that with everyone's contribution we can build a database of most of the seats in MS surgery all over India. This is a perfect opportunity to "harness collective intelligence and pooling the information" from the large community we have here at RxPG. If this thread is successful, we can take on other branches as well in new threads.

We are requesting everyone who has done a posting (internship, final year) in edicine department in their college to say a few words about that seat.

Rules for posting in this thread

1. Specify the college name and place.
2. Tell couple of plus points about doing MS Surgery from there.
3. Tell couple of disadvantages.
4. Information about stipend, if known.

to be very frank,it will not be a wise idea to do ms from my college as this deptt is derecognised my mci.but situation may improve as we r expecting by interference from goverment n by getting modern equipments n modern facilities.

tnmc as it is known to docs.and nair hospital to laymen.surgery deptt has 6 units..with round the clock emergency..emerg is comparaitively cool here as comparedto other municipal hospitals in mumbai,..
ther's minor ot and 7 major ot's.with the ot list of not less than 6 per day..so lots of cutting going on ..evryday..there is one unit of dr.gvalani who specialises in laparoscopy..but he may not always give the scope to u to handle.as an intern i had the oppotunity to handle one of them.most of house officers just assit in the ot till they complete 4 months of course in the first year...till then they are supposed to learn minor procedure nd operations...

closures,cutdowns,etc.by the end of three years u are well versed in most of the major and minor operations..to become an able surgeon

stipend as of now stands at 12,500/month

academics are ok..depends on the unit..the best unit is of the hod here...dr.shenoy..i dont know if he is still around now...

superspeciality exposure in last year itself....that too u get only one superspeciality of ur choice sometimes.....not all...

no ragging..but seniors may be pain in the @$$ sometimes..

even interns are not spared...

the city(mumbai) speaks for itself..nothing much to write about ..it....

yes there are rotation of pg candiadtes here..but the first unit u r are posted ..is always tagged to u
