Hello,We are a postgraduate doctor couple from India in UK since last 2 years. As job situation is worsening in UK and worse for surgical branches. We are moving to Australia
from Aug 2006 where we both have been offered posts in AON for 1 year.
I would like to have some information from people who have moved from UK to Austrlia like us as regards to
Working environment in Australia
.
Life as compared to UK.
Whether this is a right decision as I know people have started going back home after job situation in uk.
Please guide me

Hi egyplabber,
I think its best if you'll visit the Australian Immigration site as all information regarding going to Australia
are there whether it be for tourism or for work.
Regards.

as such immigration(permanent residency) is not available to doctors
they can come on a work permit or
as occupational trainee or
short business visa to give exams
one has to have a permanent registration with any state medical council of Australia
in order to apply for permanent immigration
there is information on
and
hope its helpful
cheers

as far as i know AON positions are usually not specialist posotions
just confirm if u have a specialist position
job situation is better than UK
AON positions are usually in rural area bit away from cities and see where u will be posted and if ur wife is posted at plcae that is 3-4 hr drive from urs then commuting will be a problem and having 2 houses will be a strain on expences
another thing u can join the program for immigration thru AoN it will give u immigration in upto 5 yrs time
enquire about the working conditiond from someone who is working near ur position that might be helpful
otherwise living is as good as in UK here
anything else
Cheers

you can start applying as soon as u arrive in Australia
keep a list of people that give u favourable response and get in touch with them about 2-3months before ur contract expires
u will have to be persistant about it
as u already have a 4 yr visa this would be helpful in getting other jobs
but usually the work permit is job specific thatis u can change job while on work permit for that u have to apply to immigration and ur new employer will sponsor u again and u will get a new work permit
just be aware of these things
as not knowing the rules is no excuse here
good luck
cheers

Hi drchetan,
I think it will take the AMC another 4-6 weeks for assessment.
Why don't you try applying for AON position? You could work while preparing for the AMC exams. Please visit the thread FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS-AMC for a summary on how to apply for AON.
Regards.
