FAQ: How to publish my research online?

Hi All,
I am new to the world of research. I just wanted to know if you can post or publish your research online, and if you can, where can you? I know from some website, that they are some commissioned blogs where you can post or publish, and they will be treated like publishings. Are they any good? will they count on a CV meant for residency? I wish to research, and publish some good articles on Anxiety and Panic Disorders for public awareness.

Dear Rajju,
Thanks for posting this.
It is quite possible. In fact we at RxPG are currently in process of launching a peer reviewed journal specifically for publishing research by junior doctors. It will be indexed in pubmed and other major databases.
You can obtain more details on it and how to submit your research by mailing to rxpgonline [at] gmail.com
Regards

hello
Thats wonderful! Yes i read about such sites who published journals at pubmed. It will be wonderful if you start this process too.
I am yet to start the research. By research, i dont suppose i could research any more pathological ways of Anxiety Disorders, but i did like to write a whole article on Anxiety Disorders, with possible causes, undeteremind or unresearched causes, care possibilities, prophylaxis, treatment, weaning of treatment, and other such articles. I did like to borrow articles from other websites too, because all the websites and information out there is spread out, a person suffering from anxiety disorder or panic disorder has to search for days to get some decent information. I myself have suffered from anxiety disorder, from an unknown cause, and i did like to add alot more to the article from personal experience. I did like to compile a whole publication, citing the above articles. Can such articles hold true to publications?
Thanks alot,
monica

Hi Rajju,
Thanks for the response.
From your input it appears that you might like to conduct a systematic review or similar study. We would advice you to search on the web for "systematic reviews" or "metaanalysis" and decide whether it is the kind of thing you want to do.

Hi,
Thanks for replying so fast. I know it doesnt really count as research, but i plan to do research on that topic a few years later on.
But does something like systemic review, or analytical and compiled articles have a chance for publication? I would like to start with it, and end up with research.
Thanks Alot,
monica

A systematic review or metaanalysis is highest form of evidence in evidential hierarchy and will definitely get published if done properly. But it involves much more effort and you would need co-researchers as well. You would need some training in systematic review process also before starting on one. Having said that, systematic review is an ideal thing for an independent or junior researcher who does not have enough resources for a full fledged research. Also it would train you well for your future original research.
If you have some clinical resources like access to clinical database as a part of your job, we can recommend starting with small projects. You can try audits (search post PLAB
forum for details) or statistical surveys and then progress to a systematic review.
Analytical studies are not preferred by major journals now a days as they mostly constitute "desktop research" and usually do not add to the existing evidence.
Although I am not aware of your access to clinical resources or your career stage, I am enlisting the options for for any junior doctor who would like to pursue research (in increasing order of difficulty):
1. Audits (student, intern)
2. Statistical Surveys (student, intern, PG)
3. Data collection in an existing research project (student, intern, PG)
4. Case reports (Intern, PG)
5. Systematic Review or metaanalysis (PG, Post PG, need to be specialising in the field)
6. Original research (PG and above)
I hope this would be helpful. If you need any more info about anything else, leave a message in this thread and I would try to reply as soon as possible (depends on me being here as per the rota of our team).
You are also welcome to use our other website that focuses primarily on medical research. And may be you would like to do some work with its editorial team to get a flair of research!
Regards

Hello,
Thank you very much for your very detailed post. I do visit the rxpgnews, and will get in touch with them about the research part. I am a 4th year student, in ukraine, i keep in touch with alot of anxiety disorder patients, and also with the psychiatrists & neurologists. Since i am new to this, could you explain the concept of audit to me? I am sorry to keep bothering you, but since this is a russian country, any research that i take part in has to be in russian, which is a downer because i dont know any russian.
TC,
Monica

Hi here are some answers to your question
| Quote: |
Formally introduced in 1993 into the United Kingdom's National Health Service, (NHS), clinical audit is defined as, "a quality improvement process that seeks to improve patient care and outcomes through systematic review of care against explicit criteria and the implementation of change".
|
Hope you will find it useful. Feel free to ask any more question you have
