Quick Scroll bush on visa status.... 02.24.06 (2 years ago) #1

hi,
this is times of india's interview with bush.
bush said that he's for granting more visas.

Q : Mr. President, in this era of free flow capital, why would -- why are there so many restrictions about inflow of talent -- human capital to the United States, who probably add wealth and knowledge?

THE PRESIDENT : I appreciate that question. I am -- you're talking about visa restrictions for highly educated citizens. I am for lifting those. I think we ought to raise the level of those who are either educated here and stay here and/or come meeting high-- with high skill levels. It's in our interest.

now..... the question which comes to my mind is.....
1) does his reference to highly educated citizens include us doctors too??? i think it does...
so is this a good news?

he goes on to say---- I've always been a proponent of that. And likewise, I would hope that India would lift its investment caps

so it means he'll give more visa if india lifts investment caps? what r the chances india doing it?

the visa cap doesnt exists for medical graduates wishing to do residency from US.

they are not counted in the 65,000/yr visa cap.so it doesnt concern us.

I agree with arihant, visa cap doesn't exist for docs. The constraints that bind us docs will still be in place even if Bush puts his words into practice.. icon_rolleyes.gif

no visa limit for IMGs.
its entirely the discretion ofcour employer i.e. the hospital where one does the residency.

peace!
