this is a concept used while interpreting ANOVA results.

I wouldnt want to try and explain it here coz it will get too long and complicated... I am not sure that its very important from entrance exam purpose (you would be very unlucky to get a question like this!)

But if you are genuinely interested in biostats (which you all should be as you will be using it a lot in future) I would suggest you to just take up any decent biostats book and read the chapter on ANOVA... I would say the biostats book by Dr Abhay Indrayan is very good for students preparing for entrance exams and those doing their PGs... Its very interesting and you could easily spare 30-45 mins a day for biostats!
