Nishu..its true that in India (and even in other part of the world) the best pay packages are taken by MBA
.
But is it just the pay packages...for which we r Doctor?
Now i dont know about others but I knew this even before i was in the MED school...and I still chose to go through the ordeal...the loads of books, the pressures, the seemingly never ending examinations, The FINAL MBBS Clinical Viva...
y we all went thru this...it was not just the money ...but we were being trained to be most responsible part of any civilised society ... one who can ease pain (in literal sense).
Though Money is important consideration for everybody but for Doctors it is something else too. Don't forget however proffessional we Doctors have become...but we can never compare it with corporate jobs...it has always been a social service and will always be.
we are Doctors dear...and should learn to identify ourselves as one...we chose to serve the society...and shud not yearn for money ( still doctors are no where less where earnings are concerned)
Enjoy the BLISS of healing others misery. It is the most satisfying part of our profession....Isnt it!

Very good said, Rahulbajaj. Congratulations !! Foremost, Money should be not of primary concern in our path. Then it does not necessarily mean that we are money less, usually it takes a longer plateau before taking off and when it does, it surges really high much to the envy of the most of the other professionals !

^ i disaree with rahul and shuvo. i think except few exceptions like you many of us who enter every year in medical colleges across india are not aware of situations that lay ahead. I wouldnt say i was in medical college for altruistic reason. Main motivating factors for me being medical college are 1) good money 2) good social status. For many of us coming from small town places or semiurban India and from middle class families there are only two options which are easily achievable i.e. to either go into engineering and tech or in medical college. I chose the latter. there are many instances of people taking MBBS because they couldnt get into decent engineering colleges ... so in nutshell there many more impotant reasons that altruism and charity for majority of us being in medical colleges. However i do not altogether rule out possibility of existence of your creed but i just want you to know that there also a sizeable chunk of "other" types. For me to justify myself being in medical by saying that I'm into medical college because i saw something beyond money - would be a fraud.
now coming to "why MBA
"... the reasons are pretty obvious to me. if you put same amount of effort needed to get a decent rank in AIPGE
into preparing for CAT and get selected into one of better management institutes you start earning upwards of Rs 6,00,000 in matter of just of two years of training. salaries hereafter would only increase. compare that with spending 3yrs doing MD/MS and then trying for superspecialization (if you still have stamina to study more) then wainting to establish practice. you might say once you start earning you willl earn like anything but tell what use that money would be when your past your prime? everyone doesnt have the patience to last that long.
working hours of an MBA
would be fixed he / she have good family life. You can hardly gaurantee these things if your into medical profession.
I agree all these thought should have considered well before you take admission in MBBS but let me tell you that your not the sole decision maker at the age 17 when you get into medical college.
Peace!

hey punk! i partly agree wid yr post. Its not tht MBA
professionals have an easy life wid fixed hours.Have seen a couple from IIMs .Sure they get paid, but it isnt a piece of cake for them either.
in IIM-A.the best in INdia..the drop out rate is more than 5 per year..
1 D garde n yr kicked out ,2 B grades n yr kicked out,u miss 3 to 4 lectures in a go yr out.
i know sum1 who got food poisonin dint attend 3 lectures and was asked to leave....believe me tht guy is doin a 9 to 5 job in a software firm n goin thru depression
even after u pass out...MBAs r expected to work round the clock..no 1 gets paid for nothin..
so dear frnd...wht i am tryin to say is grass is always greener on the other side... Being a doc is a gift...its entirely upto "us" wht we turn our future into..

thts precisely wht i m sayin here...tht MBAs do not have regular 9 to 5 jobs...n yes i read tht atricle abt IIM B.
btw theres a vast difference among pass outs from IIM A n the rest of IIMs....thts y IIM A is given the standin it has....talk to ne graduate from IIMA n u ll know abt their STRICT standards...
gettin into IIMA is 1 hell of an issue...gettin out is another....thts y they get such fat pay checks n hence their value..

Whatever said and done the amount of satisfaction you get by healing or even just relieving somebody out of their suffering........matches nothing in this world.....
It might take time, effor, a lot of money and patience...but it is still worthy....Hope atleast a few of the not so settled doctors share my thoughts....

hmmm..
if doctors can study for hours all their life, it shud be no prob for us to find a way to earn money...
there are million ways to earn money... jus learn to know one which suits u with the money u earn from medicine...
earning money shud never be on the top of our mind, it shud be a separate factory... comments welcome >>
