Quick Scroll MD-Medicine: Baroda Medical College, Gujarat 02.20.06 (2 years ago) #1

heres something about medicine in baroda medical college (Gujarat )

-campus- quite spacious with separate units for each department. located well in the centre of the city, so most places of interest are near by.

-medicine deptt.- there are about 6 units, each with a separate ward. each unit has its day for opd and emergency. each unit has 2 first year residents, 2 or 3 APs and 1 proffessor.

-patient inflow- is good. quite hectic for a first year resident (though not as much as an orthopaedics or sx rsident). usually have a wide variety of cases mostly from lower middle and lower classes, from Gujarat as well as from nearby districts of MP.

-facilities- are quite lacking(compared to the cream colleges). only the common investigations are available, rest have to be done from outside (so a lot of headache for R1). most of the common drugs are there in government supply but no luxurious drugs.
wards are spacious and quite clean.

-faculty- some time ago there were a lot of brilliant professors, but many of them have now retired or left. though a few good teachers do remain. but in general residents are dissatisfied with the level of teaching staff. this is one imp. disadv.

-stipend- R1- 8000, R2-8500, R3-9000. (diploma-5500)

- attitude for outsiders- quite good at the pg level. no prejudice, no ragging etc.
infact, all india candidates are implicity respected bcos many of them have been gold medalists in the past, and also they are more well equiped with most of the subjects.

- in general the medicine deptt would be rated as average. nothing special to boast of. most of the exam going residents is talked to, were not satisfied with the time they had spend there. most of them advised me to take some better place if available.

- about baroda- baroda has a 'small town' charm. does not have the ruggedness and arrogance of the metros, nor the diffidence and laziness of a small town. just the right place to spend good time. fully equiped with good quality eat-outs and multiplexes. in fact it has all one would like to have in a good city. the only hitch is that there are not many places to hang around(picnic spots).

that is the first hand informatin about this place. for something in detail i will have to take to help of residents.

hey carolina,..... that might have happened a few years back,........ bcos at present ,...... i can guarantee there is no such prejudice,..... take my word.
the first yr residents(now to become 2nd yr residnts) are great people,..... both locals and those from AIPGE ,.... no chance of ragging or anything...

pedia in baroda is quite good,........ some excellent proffesors,.... good acedamics...... plus neonatal and pediatric ICU,..... i would say pedia is the best deptt. in baroda medical college.

why do people have a bad impression for Gujarat
all are treated equally
its just the heavy work load here that most seems that they are being exploited
