Hi.I did my MBBSfrom Grant Medical College Mumbai. My College is one of the oldest in Asia and definitely the oldest in India.
As far as Medicine is concerned the patient inflow is great! We have also separate OPD for HIV and gastro. We have a endoscopy room attached to the medicine dept (we do not have a DM in this subject). So residents can get some exposure in Gi endoscopies and colonoscopies.
We have a well organised ART centre and separate HIV ward as well. Also a medicine CCu an MICU is present with ventilators and the works. We have 2 allied hospitals in GT and St.Georges where also pt flow is good.
The only major problem is that there are only a few good teachers at the prof. and ap level.Lecturers are competant. But the best part is the resident community. Some of the best residents come from JJ-capable of handling any kind of emergency. The training that you get from your senior residents nd CRs is excellent. The hostel also is decent.
On the flipside is the politics that can be associated with a govt institution and the interiors are gloomy .
All in all however If you are getting a seat in my college-Dont leave it.The institution has produced great doctors who have keen clinical judgement and the confidence to be successful in pvt practice.
