HI
I'M AN INTERN OF THIS SO CALLED INDIA'S LARGEST MEDICAL COLLEGE(250 UG SEATS) WITH ASSOCIATED ASIA'S LARGEST GENERAL HOSPITAL(MORE THAN 1850 BED CAPACITY).
THE COLLEGE IS IN THE PART EAST TO THE SABARMATI RIVER WHICH IS NOT AT ALL DEVELOPED BUT THE PART OF CITY WEST TO YHE RIVER IS QUITE INTERESTING.AHMEDABAD NEEDS NO INTRODUCTION.THIS CITY LACKS THE NATURAL BEAUTY AND UNFORTUNATELY IS THE INDIA'S MOST POLLUTED CITY(SOURCE: NDTV INDIA).ALSO THIS CITY IS A LARGE CONGLOMEARATE OF INTELLECTUALLY DEFICIENT,IRRITATING PEOPLE(AS A NON-GUJARATI,YOU'LL BE FRUSTRATWED DAMN SURE) BUT THIS CITY ALSO HAS PREMIER INSTITUTES LIKE IIM,NIFT,NID,DA-IICT.
IF WE LOOK AT THE ADVANTAGES OF DOING M.D. MEDICINE FROM HERE THEN OBVIOUSLY AS THIS IS A CENTRE FOR Gujarat
;IT HAS A PATIENT INFLOW COMPARABLE TO AIIMS
.ALSO AS THE Rajasthan
AND M.P. ARE RELATIVELY POORER STATES AND THE FACILITIES ARE GOOD HERE(AS COMPARED TO OTHER STATES,PATIENTS DO GET ALL THE MEDICINES FREE OF COST) PATIENTS FROM THESE STATES ARE FREQUENT VISITOR.BASIC RESOURCES ARE AMPLE HERE,GENERALLY THERE IS NO SHORTAGE. THERE IS A CORRUPTION OF MINIMAL LEVEL(AT LEAST FOR YOU AS A DOCTOR).THE TEACHERS HERE DO NOT DO PRIVATE PRACTICE SO THEY ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE BENIFIT OF THE PATIENT.THE CIVIL CAMPUS HAS ALL THE SPECIALTIES HOSPITALS SO YOU CAN KEEP WATCH OVER A DIFFICULT CASE IF YOU HAVE THAT DESIRE TO LEARN.THERE ARE 11 UNIT IN THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE
IF WE LOOK AT NEGATIVE ASPECTS THEN THEY ARE TOO MANY.RESIDENT DOCOTORS PARTICULARLY DO NOT SHOW INTEREST IN THE TREATMENT OF THE PATIENT.ALL THEY WANT IS QUICK DISCHARGE AT ANY COST.SOME MALPRACTICES ARE SO HEINOUS THAT THEY SHOULD NOT BE MENTIONED.RESIDFENTS DOCOTORS DO NOT EVEN HAVE THE TIME TO READ "HARRISON'S" IN THREE YEARS.SO YOU WILL HAVE VERY FEW CHANCES TO LEARN.
SO IN THE END DO NOT JUST CHOOSE THIS CENTRE BECAUSE IT'S IN A BIG CITY. IT IS COMPLTELY ON YOUR OWN RISK. I'M SURE THOSE WHO WILL COME HERE WILL REGRET THEIR DECISION FOR SURE.

Yes, I have done MBBS from BJMC... I'd not like to do PG here... Even I doubt other good colleges as what I have seen in BJMC is horrible & still it is considered the best in Gujarat
? (according to admission, of course!)
Beware of BJMC PG!!!!! You will learn lots of things except the subject you have come to learn!!!!!

I do not agree with you folks some branches like radiodiagnosis, skin and some units in medicine, surgery and og are good. opthal is very good. its how you make of your training as a pg, no one is going to spoon feed you. Try to publish while doing pg and develope interest in a particular field. Teach you junior colleagues while doing pg. You will see the difference then.

dr venky must have done his pg from bj but his suggestions are very childish.if the suggestions like publishing a paper or teaching your junior coleagues would help, they would help in any part of world. dr venky may not have seen but i have seen enough of malpractices during my internship in every department. we have worked to make false reports, dissuading patients to ask for discharge against medical advice as soon as possible or sometimes not to get even admitted.dr venky i think did not read my column properly,i had quoted many positive points also.but in the end when we analyse any matter it is the pile of the garbage that decides the fate of the matter.civil hospital disappoits to so much level that most of the bright pg students in the end become sheep in the herd.almost all have the feeling that they cant pursue DM
/MCh
course.beware dr venky a sense of complacency is always dejecting in the end.

Yes, Mr Venky!!!! I'd prefer BJMC if I'd like everything except studies, so called, co-curricular activities(!!!) that go on in the great BJMC!!!!
We are not demanding spoon feeding.. What we want is good respect as a resident Dr. We are not servant to professors nor they are master to us. And not only that, but what do we learn from them after 'serving' them for 3 important years? malpractice? politics? obscene words? butter polish? All who praise BJMC prefer it because they have suffered before & after this suffering, now he becomes the don! so then he forgets those experiences & advises others to get there...
Not being too harsh, no doubt, ophthal & a couple of units in medicine are all right.. but what about hte rest? what about the credit that BJMC possess? biggest hospital!!!!!
All from India come here only because of the numbers of PG seats that open every year. But that gives so many residents in each unit & gives APs opportunity to become lazy, as they have so many assistants.
Leave about PG. Who has taught us UG in clinical subjects? 1-2 lectures per wk? That's BJMC... & Mr Venky, I don't want spoon feed as I HAVE LEARNED EVERYTHING MYSELF DURING WHOLE LAST 2 YEARS & HAVE SECURED GOOD RANK IN UNI....
What I expect is some sort of good conduct towards patients & other Drs. I am not talking only about residency. All units & HOUs have internal politics..
May I ask if some one from this great medical college is ready & eager to write a novel on what is going on there & tell the society what are the true faces of their respected doctors?
