BJ MEDICAL COLLEGE, PUNE

2. Tell couple of plus points about doing MD medicine from there.
a) 1200 + bedded hospital ( but this stat is useless as there are usually double the no of patients admitted )
b) patient flow is good -- med guys are among the busiest in our hosp. lots of flow from periphery. U will see AND MANAGE all kinds of patients.
c) superspeciality is there but still the MD med guys get to manage all pts. Dunno how but all pts are under him.
d) discrimination against outsiders -- dude whats that? never heard ab something like that in my coll!
e) teachers are good .. par pharak padhtaa hain kya? I used to think after UG one is on his own! neways Sangle ma'm is the baap in neuro. Cardio professors are also good. Dr Kakraani HOD Med is fantastic. His knowledge is very extensive.
BJMC been the only govt med college in pune all the stalwarts in Pune usually visit it some time or other.
f) Extracurricular --- doubt hw much med guys and gals wil be interested in it.
Still .. very active Mountaineering club( we practice 'mounatineering' not just trekking!). Arts Circle is very active( organizes the only classical music and dance intercollegiate event in pune every year). Lots of festivals all year round. No GMC but, no student body.
MARD is active among PGs
g) good atmosphere overall. friendly pplle ( at least UGs were)
h) one gets time to study.. last yr our coll guy topped DM entrance and is now doing DM cardio in GS Med coll -- the best college in Maharashtra

3. Tell couple of disadvantages.
a) typical govt hospital ... in jr ship i bet u will spend more time stealing/begging for bulbs!
b) pts r poor .. cant afford expensive stuff
c) small town .. compared to mumbai .
d)lots of work

HEY i cant criticize my alma matter more

4. Information about stipend, if known.
not sure .. but ab 8000-10000 bracket

abt bjmc pune.....frst of all from wht ive seen wile working as an intern... the work load for jr's is massive an so is in almost all dept's in sassoon hosp. the wards are almost always owerflowin with patients so thier defi wont be any shortage at that. the investigations lab i'd say is prety good. an others like histo path an radio are very good. the big plus point is that just abt all the senior prof's are quite good ( altogh there are one or 2 wierdos who i shudnt name). but there are sum really awesum ones esp the h.o.d. abt other stuff...pune...awesum city 2 stay in. outsiders dun worry...noone wil notice or care if ur not from the state ( altogh u will have 2 learn marathi...coz 90% of the patients wud speak in that language...but dun worry it isnt any tuff if u know hindi). the residents mess is a real mess though. the food is aweful for sure. an dun expect anythin special abt the residents stayin arrangments. id say abt the jj / bj stuff i think if u r from bombay id say u shud probly opt fr jj ( just fr the fact that its in bombay) fr others i think bj as far as med is concernd is as good as any other ....if not beter.

Hi would like to know if a resident is rotated under all the professors. it doesnt happen in ahmedabad. if you are stuck with one good professor then your lucky else you may be under a total atypical for the whole course. so how is it there? also is the college attached to more than one hospital? if yes which would be the better one? I am askin this as in Ahmedabad NHL has 2 Hopsitals of which one is much better than the other(along with no rotations) this can be a killer. so would like to know these facts.

hi guys......bjmc,pune is good for medicine not too good like kem,mumbai or ltm or grant. but 4th rank in Maharashtra .1st year of pg is too hectic....sometie u have to do below quality work.hostel facility is poor in 1st year. but professor and academic is good.u will see all kind of cases during ur pg.overall a college to take admission.city is too good to live life.but plz be confirm about stipend....it is 8000 or 12,500.all the best.

can u pleas tell me how is Dermatology in bjmc...especially Diploma....as compared to mumbai colleges...
i have heard that there is no point in doing diplomas outside mumbai except for branches like DCH,DGO,DMRD!!!!!!
How far this is true???????
