FRACTURE of necessity...is The Galeazzi fracture, where there is a radial shaft fracture with associated dislocation of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ), which disrupts the forearm axis joint.

In 1941, Campbell termed this fracture "the fracture of necessity," necessitating surgical treatment since nonsurgical treatment in adults results in persistent or recurrent dislocations of the distal ulna.
