Debate: Is Maharashtra
PGMCET really worth it?

Hi all Well I had a look at the online brochure and seat distribution at the DMER site.I was so shocked! There are virtually 120 odd purely clinical seats in the open category all over Maharashtra
.Moreover only 40% of these are recognised. The rest are either not recognised or only approved. And this inludes esteemed colleges like LTMC,sion and Nair Hospital. I wonder that if these are also not upto standard of MCI ,how come all the private hospitals are?
Also there are very few diploma seats in the various colleges. All in all it is a very bleak scenario.Only the top 150-200 rankers will get a clinical seat in Maharashtra
.The students in reserved category have a slight advantage. Also usually students from Maharashtra
don't do very well in All India entrance. So I doubt if more seats going to AIPGE
quota will help.It looks that only a top 50 rank can assure us of a good seat in State PG entrance!
Do you think it is really worth it?Or should we try for other entrances such as COMEDK which have more seats or SGPGI
which are on the same day?Lets discuss....

True harshadbhai. But then it seems inevitable to go far away from home to do a PG.Unless of course you are in top 50 in AIPGE
.

I dont understand why u people always say reserved category have an upper hand.think like this there are about 2-3 thousand reserved category people giving the exam and only 35 clinical seats worth doing in sc and 25 in st.and already 50% seats have gone to all india so there nothing much left for reserved.eventually the equation is the same.blaming reservations and not studying wont help anyones cause..in todays world everyone has to work hard.there is no alternative left.and also the private colleges are out of cet.why no one is complaining about that or having the guts to file a petition to challenge SC verdict.they build colleges from our tax money getting everything at subsidised rate.so why are they exempted.think about it.

I have mentioned that quack82.Pvt .hospitals are minting money. Also I would like to add drani that at rank 154 Rushi would not have got medicine in KEM as he is getting now in the state.Another of my friend Amar Pandit has got rank 7 in state but 225 at AIPGE
.So he will get Med in sion or Nair .In all india he would have to take maybe BJ medical,Pune. There are many others who have mostly done better in state exam.
However I agree with you that we must get AIPGE
oriented and study hard to change the trend .

Also dear quack82,reserved category students who have very high ranks take admission in the general open category and those with lesser ranks get in the reserved category. This is a fact.i am not complaining or anything but its true that the reserved category students have an advantage.I repeat that I do not wish to offend any student from the reserved category you are all equally good friends of mine and am sorry if I hurt you with my remarks.

Hi all,
A very good thread indeed.....
1-Firstly I would like to say that PGMCET is a very unpredictable exam.No negative marks so everyone attempts everything.A difference of 5-10 MCQS(which can go right by fluck)is all the difference between a good and a good-for-nothing rank.
2-Wide fluctuation in the difficulty level of papers. Not at all reliable as far as calculating marks or ranks compared to previous years.Last year if you remember, the paper was a cake-walk where as this year it was very tough.Same marks as last year will fetch you half the rank of last year in this years exam.
3-No co-relation with AIPGE
.My friend has rank in 300s in Maharashtra
CET,but NO rank in AIPGE
.
I got rank in 1000s in Maharashtra
CET and I have a rank in AIPGE
.Many more of such examples.
4-Lastly and most importantly, very few seats.Very dependant on the AIPGE
.Only if many people leave their AIPGE
seat,will Maharashtra
CET rankers have some chance.
5-AIPGE
is a way better exam.More predictable, more reliable, fixed pattern of studying more or less. Its a complete exam I would say-tests your knowledge, presence of mind, common sense, and time management.Definitely a more complete exam.I would say that keep AIPGE
in mind while studying and Maharashtra
CET studies will happen automatically with that.

Yes this is the so called ear marking rule that further diminishes the hope of general candidates as "general" is not a seperate category in the eyes of law but is infact equivalent more appropriately to "none"!
