One more held in medical exam entrance case in Chennai

Chennai, Apr 05: CBI today arrested one more doctor from the city, in connection with the leakage of question papers for the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance examination.

With the arrest of Dr Duraimurugan,, the total number of persons held in connection with the case has risen to 10, CBI anti-Corruption Bureau Dig, N R K Reddy told media agency.

Duraimurugan had scanned the question paper and passed it on to one Raghu, he said adding more arrests were likely in the coming days.

A couple of days ago two brothers - Dr Grey Bernard and Stanley Bernard - from Tamil Nadu had been arrested. On March 31, CBI had nabbed seven doctors in connection with the case.

The arrests were made after gathering evidences during raids conducted at 41 places on March 29. Investigations revealed that a group of doctors were also involved in the case. Reddy said.

They had allegedly provided answers to about 300 objective type questions through SMS to the candidates appearing for the exams for around Rs two to Rs 10 lakh. The CBI has so far recovered Rs 18 lakh following raids.

1,2,3,4 - The first to be held were the four alleged masterminds of the racket: MD students P. Satish Kumar and Vijay Kanna and senior resident doctors Ravi Kannan and N. Bhaskar.

5,6,7 - Later, the CBI picked up Prof. Kathamuthu — commerce teacher with Presidency College, an exam centre — as well as office assistants Raghuvaran Nair and Manoharan of Asan Memorial School and Pachaiyappa’s College.

8,9 - Dr Grey Bernard allegedly scanned the 80-page question paper with the “docu pen” at Chennai’s Pachaiyappa’s college — an exam centre — before throwing it out of a particular window. His brother Stanley Bernard, who had drafted a college employee into the scheme, was waiting outside the window, the CBI said.
