i'm preparing for PG-MEDICAL.from ur book-rxpg biostats. while going through ur book i found a controversial question.it states as-

" median wt. of 100 children was 12 kg.tha std. deviation was 3.calculate % coefficient of variance?"

u have used the formula=( SD /mean ) *100.the value of mean taken is 12..but according to me,12 is median and not mean.so whats the answer now.well u think mean and median r the same ?

i'm waiting for ur reply.

i dont have the book.but

all numericals and formulas in biostats are based on the presumption that the sample distribution follows a normal/gaussian curve............and in that mean =median=mode

In a Gaussian distribution Mean = Median = Mode

in a positively skewed curve..
mean>median>mode

in a negatively skewed curve..
mode>median>mean
