Quick Scroll RxPG Interview with Darshan Nayak, Final MBBS, Researcher 04.27.06 (2 years ago) #1

Quote:
RxPG Interview with Darshan Nayak, Final MBBS, Artificial Retina Researcher
Date: Thursday, April 27 @ 22:47:24 IST
Topic: Research

Print this page

Darshan Nayak, a final year MBBS student of Grant Medical College, Mumbai recently featured in a news article on page 4 of Times of India, in connection with a research project on artificial retina. This evoked my curiosity and I managed to track him down and convince him for a short interview. (I know him through a common friend since a couple of months).

Over a cup of coffee in Indian library canteen, in those few hours, Darshan came across to me as an extremely modest, sincere and focused human being. His friends describe him as a chirpy, outgoing and very optimistic guy. But, he chooses to call himself “passionate”. Yes that’s the right word to describe him, I agree.

Where most of us struggle to fight the miniscule challenges of our mediocre lives, and so often give up midway, this 23 year old, not even a graduate yet, has already made a name for himself in the field of research and still has a long way to go.

He is an example for all those who desire to step aside from a mundane life and do something different. He is an inspiration for like minded people to rekindle their burnt out, repressed desires and passions. The desire to be a known face in a crowd, the passion to live life to the fullest and not to get caught up in the web of conventions, and most importantly the will to fight, and never to give up. So read on to know more about his work, his dreams, his inspiration, and him as a person.

i liked the interview a lot!!!

i identify with his desires and consider him lucky as he found a guide who led him towards the great work he has done.

this is onething we all should be keen to do,which i something most graduates in the uk do,they take 1 year off for research!!!!

thats one thing which i feel i had lacking in my medical college days, anyway i guess its never too late for any of us to do something.

I think he has done a great job....but there is too much hype created in the interview. He is not something too exceptional. All you guys get up and see at our college, AIIMS . and u ll find many guys with 4-5 research publications and many more even before final year........u should search all the INDIA and then comment about superiority of someone....i am not against anybody, but when u dont know wat the research is actually (I am talking about the person who took the interview)....The interviewer is too biased......

Finally....just wake up man and look wats goin on in this country....we r much far ahead than u think......

Dear Dr Chauhan,

Welcome to RxPG!

Thanks for some valuable FEEDBACK . We always appreciate FEEDBACK from our users. As you are new to RxPG, we can take this opportunity to explain some of the basic principles behind RxPG community. Anyone is free to voice their opinions in RxPG public forums as long as they are done in a polite and responsible way. We promote democracy and free speech in the forums and will never edit any comment solely on the basis of the opinion expressed in them. However, impolite language (as we just saw in other thread started by you) and criticising anyone who has at least taken an initiative is not acceptable and violates our terms of service ( TOS ). If you see our TOS , you will realise that we have placed a huge amount of stress on mutual respect and we do enforce that part of TOS strictly.

Having vast and uptodate knowledge about something and keeping it with yourself is not something that can give any credibility to your criticism of someone who might have had lesser knowledge but taken an initiative to share it with others, which is a much more nobler thing to do. Can we take this opportunity to invite you to interview some student researchers form AIIMS and share that with RxPG community. We can assure that your interviews will be given the same level of exposure in RxPG website and this gesture will be well appreciated by RxPG community.

Regards

RxPG Team

hi dr.anil,

very good to hear that soo many from AIIMS are involved in research work.congradulations.

we all know that AIIMS is a great institute with equally talented students.AIIMS along with iit-delhi has been doing a wonderful job in biomedical research.so research is another face for the institute.

just because your friends have more papers why should that rob somebody of appreciation for good work?why should not everyone get a good applaud for his work?you could have just said that you have a friend who also deserves a pat on the back.all of us here are more than willing to do that.nobody is being ranked for the quality of work one has done.it is an open forum.where is the bias that you seem to have found out?

please understand that the infrastructure necessary for research is found in very few institutions.it requires good faculty for guidance, adequate labs and a host of requirements including patients(for clinical research).but we have only one AIIMS and probably a dozen top class research labs in biomedical sciences.funding is hard to get.students have less and less oppurtunity.with all this if someone could do something it deserves appreciation and encouragement.not complaints about bias.

dear dr chauhan
i'll be more than happy in viewing your cv . hope you wont disappoint me and forward it to me. i may provide you [snip] if you may please.
i really need some inspiration and if it's from someone from the premier institute i'll be more than previleged
publications is fine but how many are solely as first author matters. hopefully you are not talking of some one from et al.
this is just for clarification and no offence meant

as regards the interviewer is concerned i think we needn't have a very strong research CV . should we question the reporters / tv interviewers who haven't won any election and actively cover the political scenario world wide?????

or shoud we invite / request prof s k sharma from medicine deppt AIIMS to interview any potential upcoming researcher????

well without any prejudices i would love to see ur interview here
hope you wont disappoint with this if you wish i may arrange some one equally strong in research to interview you.
best regards
your able follower
