Quick Scroll US Visa Interview 04.28.06 (2 years ago) #1

hi....

i got my F-1 students visa for mph-fall 2006...

this was how it went...

reached the consulate about half hour early... cleared the security checking... (its pretty ok for girls... not much of a hassle.... guys, well u gotta empty ur pockets, remove ur belts... etc etc.. )
got done with the finger-printing bit and was waiting for my token no: to be called out... (the announcements for non-immigrant visas r very soft...)
my visa officer was a kind-looking lady.... n this is how it went..

VO: good morning!
Me: good morning.

VO: why do u want to go to us?
Me: to do my mph in xyz univ.

VO: why that univ?
Me: well ranked, course suits my needs.

VO: which other univ did u apply to?
Me: blah, blah and blah

VO: what will u do after coming back?
Me: work in the public health sector in india... govt org/ngo's... etc etc

VO: who is financing ur education?
Me: my parents

VO: show me ur financial statement...
VO: ok....

thats it... my interview was over...

good luck to all!!...

Hi,

I have heard that you have to show 1st year fees and plus some more money (the total comes to around about 15-20 lakhs) in ur savings account. And it should be there for at least 6 months. Otherwise there is a high probability that your visa may get rejected. Is it true? Can some one who has already got visa or has any idea tell me how long they have kept the money in their account before visa interview

hi mailtome....

well i cant quote a particular amt coz the fees differ from univ to univ.... what u need to do is, multiply the amt mentioned on ur i-20 by 1.5 times..... thats the amt u need to show in liquid....
and by liquid i mean:
1. bank balance
2. fixed deposits
3. national savings
4. provident fund
5. lic policy (surrender value)
6. jewellery
7. shares

and yes u are right.... wotever amount u r showing in ur bank a/c..... needs to be lying there for atleast 6 mths.... so if ur interview is within the next 6 mths.. dont touch it unless u can safely account for it.... i.e. if u have sold shares and put money in the bank, u need to have proof of that..... otherwise any big deposits that are not accounted for... make the VO suspicious...

hope this helps..

good luck.

hi fragile_x...

i have done the needful.....

i am not very sure about how your should calculate a suitable amount for a b1/2 visa.... but i guess an amount adequately covering your travel and living expenses while in the US, with adequate funds remaining for ur family here should do...
taken a date for the interview?

good luck...
