PMK wants CBI probe into admissions

PMK, a constituent of Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu, has demanded a CBI probe into the post-graduate medical courses admissions in the state following allegations of "irregularities".

A resolution to this effect was adopted at a party executive meeting held on Tuesday at Villupuram.

The resolution referred to students' allegations that there was "political interference" in the admission procedure and said the government should order a CBI probe to allay such fears.

"To allay their fears and also remove the doubts in the minds of the public, the government should order a CBI probe", it said.

PMK faults TN govt on administration
NT Bureau
Chennai, June 24:

PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss has criticised the turn of events over the dismissal of temporary staff, their subsequent reinstatement and the issue over education by saying that the ruling government was not attending to the day-to-day administration properly.

In a statement in Chennai yesterday, Ramadoss listed out the several 'entrance exam scams' that have hit the State in recent times. He mentioned the leak of test papers for post graduate medical entrance examination and the one for police sub-inspector promotion. These happened even while the dust was to settle down on the examination question leak in Madurai Kamaraj University.

The issue of 22 incorrect questions in Anna University was taken up in courts recently, he pointed out adding that appointment of registrars was pending in the University of Madras, Thiruvalluvar University, Bharathidasan University, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and the Dr M G R Medical University. The Ambedkar Law University is functioning without a Vice-Chancellor and there are also reports that the post of examination controller was vacant in several universities, he said.

Critical over revoking counselling for transfer of teachers, Ramadoss said it had been done much against the assurance extended in the Governor's speech in the Assembly in 2002. The government then said it would continue it in the interest of bringing in transparency and abolishing corruption.

Students were walking to courts seeking justice. Shortage of text books, voices seeking change in school timings, confusion prevailing in professional college admissions all await settlement, he added.

Rather than trying to solve them, the rulers, awaiting the Assembly elections, were caught in a 'grip of fear'. Transfer of officials and Ministers every month was a result of this. It is obvious that every department had come to a standstill and the official machinery has stopped functioning, he said.

The exam was conducted as follows

1. The question paper (4 sets with keys - 220 question each set) was sold to the aspirants for price ranging from 4 lakhs to 8 lakhs

This racket was organised by a staff of Directorate of Medical Education who has close relatives in Highways / PWD and the deal is struck by those persons

2. Few other guys were given nearby exam numbers and the solved key (solved by few toppers in one vehicle parked outside Meenakshi college with all the books) was circulated.... THe Exam Invigilator was given 20,000 and the others like that

This racket was organised by a Surgical Oncologist...... Cost per person 1 to 1.5 lakhs

3. The marks were manipulated in the correction venue..... you have to leave you answer sheet blank and shade just 10 - 20 questions. The correct answer will be shaded by those in the Valuation Cell and then your answer sheet will be fed to the computer OMR Scanner.....

The cost varies depends on what rank you need

For a rank of about 20 - 30, it is 6 - 7 lakhs (if you need MD OG etc)

For rank of about 100 - 120 it is 2 - 3 lakhs (if you need MD Gen Med, MS Gen Surg)

4. The seats were Hidden in the first round counselling and the candidates who have paid 4 lakhs (for MD Gen Med) and 12 lakhs (for MD OG) were asked to choose waiting list

Later the seats were given to them in the "Open House Session"

Organised by

Sheela Rani Shunkat

5. Transfer (usually from Madurai / Coimbatore ) to Chennai was for Rs 50,000

Organisers : Section Clerk and Supdt in DME
