Quick Scroll supervised training positions , (very important) 05.09.06 (2 years ago) #1

Dear colleagues ,

i have passed both amc parts this year , and i am now trying to apply for a supervised training position . according to NSW postgraduate medical council, am oversease trained doctor can NOT apply for this position unless he/she hold an australian permanent residency OR a valid working visa. and as everybody know you can not get PR without full unconditional registration. the same applies for getting a working visa, i visited the australian embassy here in my own country, they told me that i should provide them with a job offer from a hospital there in order to give me a working visa ( which make sense ), but the post graduate medical council will not accept me to apply unless having that working visa.

it a real dilema for me , specially that i grdauted 2 years ago , so i dont have enough experience to get a job other than a supervised training position

any suggestion how to get over this obstacle .

cheers

Hi Waljor,

First of all, congratulations for passing both parts of the AMC exam.

BTW, just a query, have you inquired regarding this from the other postgraduate council states?

I would suggest to directly apply to the hospitals for a JHO position. But keep in mind that you have to be in a teaching hospital so that it can be credited as your supervised training. Other states may have different procedures in applying for supervised training, so I would suggest that you contact them.

I have contacted some postgraduate councils. In Victoria, an IMG can participate in the intern matching if they are an AMC graduate if they have a PR status.

In South Australia , JHO positions allocated to IMGs is coordinated with the department of health.

Just google for the postgraduate council's sites and I'm sure you'll get some more info.

Please let us know what happens next so you may be able to guide us in the future! icon_smile.gif

Regards.
