Quick Scroll FMG's chances of passing the USLME? 05.16.06 (2 years ago) #1

Hi everyone,
I dont know where to post this....
I'm a 1st year MBBS student from India. I would really like to come to the US to do my residency after I complete my MBBS. I heard that in order to do this, I'll have to complete the USMLE . I know that the USMLE steps I and II can be done in India itself, but step III has to be done in the US. So is it possible for me to complete the USMLE steps I and II before I graduate from the medical college? Also will I have to lose a year or more during the period I complete step III and start a residency? Also I heard that many foreign students dont pass the USMLE on the first attempt. Is this true?

HEY,
U R FRESHER, YAAR NJOY RIGHT NOW.
ANYWAYS THERE IS NO SUCH THING LIKE FMG HAS AHRD TIME PASSING. IF U STUDY U PASS AND IF U DON'T U DON'T PASS.
STUDY QUALITATIVELY AND U WILL PASS. NOT QUANTITATIVELY.. QUANTITY DOESN'T MATER.
GET KAPLAN DVD/BOOKS AND STUDY. U WILL LIKE THEM. FOR U BETTER IS STEP1 IN 3RD 1ST. WHEN U WILL HAVE LESS BURDEN. THEN GIVE STEP 2 DURING INTERNSHIP OR SOON AFTER..
THIS IS THE BEST OPTION IF U WANNA GIVE YOUR STEPS HERE IN INDIA AND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
U CAN GIVE THEM BOTH IN ONE YEAR AFTER INTERNSHIP ALSO. DON'T STRAY FROM UR TARGET AND DO ONE EXAM AT A TIME. U WIL DO IT. I M SURE. AND INDIAN DOCS R THE BEST MAN. WHY DO UHAE TO WORRY.. U WILL PASS. DON'T THINK OF FAILING BEFORE EVEN STARTING THE PREPARTION. SO START RIGHT NOW.
HAVE A GUD TIME.

whatever u calll it here in India..
for them, the US guys hwo studies outside is also an IMG and we r also IMG.. u did from india or abroad u r IMG for them..
the FMG is the same as international medical graduate.. its only in India they say FMG.. otherwise its IMG everywhere else..
hope u don't confuse urself with these words. anyways have a gud day..
what exactly u wanted to askif I didn't answer ur questions..

about UG in USA. its 8 years if u don't have any graduate degree from India or somewhere else. u need a 4 year course after 12th class to get into medical school in USA.. otherwise u do 8 years.. so its ur wish. whatever u wanna continue u can..
anyways where r u doing Medicine. u said 6 years.. r u in europe??
bye. have a gud day

(img-studied in india n working there and fmg an indian whose got his degree from abroad)---rite or i m nterchanging dem??
so who has better chance
advisable to do ug frm us????
rather than try 6 yrs hence???

graduation from US medical school wont guarantee a surg residency.

excellent scores + citizenship/ Green card /+ good contacts is the best way to get a surg categorical postion.

i hope you know that for surgery , they have a pyramid system in US....you can get dropped from the program if you are not the best....its risky, length and tedious.

another way of getting into surg residency is a doing ms in india /+ MRCS
from UK....frcs trained candidates had a good chance of making it to surg programs earlier...but these days, you get only MRCS
degree....
work experience in the filed of surgery is of great value and comes in handy while applying to US general residency training programs

hi
what if only MRCS 1 & 2 are done and final is remaining!
will it bear the weight of MRCS or they dont regard until u complete your MRCS final also?
due to CS in nov, i'll be giving final in 2007 feb. and the results will be out only after matching.
any idea or experience related to it
thanks

no score in CS it is pass or fail..
Passing MLE is not difficult .. it is not the only thing that guarentee you about Residency..
there are lot more thing then MLE, search in some other thread and you will find it..

I think passing MLE is not difficult but getting residency is..... DIFFICULT...
