Quick Scroll new pg programme by manipal group with kathmandu university! 05.28.06 (2 years ago) #1

hi
i'm of '99 batch, now a pg-prep. there is a pg course offered by the manipal group with kathmandu university at its various institutions including kmc manipal and mangalore, and the manipal hospital, bangalore. it is based on an entrance. fee is 5 lakhs per year. u can contact its office at manipal hospital, bangalore for details.

the education department
ku-memg pg programme
manipal hospital
bangalore
ph: 080 25268901 25266441
ext 4450, 4447.
or
u can contact the office of the kathmandu university, nepal.

the procedure for admission is as follows :
first everyone has to take an entrance exam - likely to be in the feb of every year( it is different from MAHE entrance). then follows the counselling. the last entrance was conducted on feb 27, this year. there is no management quota. the fee is 5lakhs Ind Rs/year. they take both nepalis and indians by separate entrances for each. at the admission one has to pay 1st year fee. if one doesn't get his desired branch (eg. radiology), he may be put in the waiting list for the particular branch so that he may get it after any possible vacancies in it, while in the meantime continuing his studies in the other branch ( eg. gen surgery) which he gets in the counselling. if the seats still remain vacant they give seats even to those who have not taken the exam - this is the present situation in some branches due to lack of popularity of the course. there r hundreds of students now pursuing course in this programme since last 3 yrs. the final yr batches r going to be out this yr june. the training here is only in india in either of the 3 colleges - kmc, manipal; kmc, mangalore; manipal hosp, bang; u need not go to nepal even to collect ur degree. the degree is given by the kathmandu university.

the course is not recgd by mci, but the management is trying to first get DNB recgn and then try for the mci - the chances of getting it r high ( remember nepal is the closest associate of india even among the saarc countries and many nepal universitites have been started with the help of gov of india). but don't worry about the mci. even MAHE was not recgd till 1986 but later got it. now there r hundreds of students pursuing this course and the 1st final yr batch is going to be out this july.

as far as i know the so called recgn is not a compulsory requirement to practice. with ur mbbs u can practice any thing. there is a supreme court ruling stating that a person with mbbs degree recognised by mci can practice in a particular branch with necessary training from any university in the world. this course can work as a residency experience that can take care of any legal problems, if at all they occur in one's practice. no foreign degree is recgd by mci but there r many docs working in india with foreign degrees (like FRCS, FRCP, and from Russia ) as leading practitioners - none can question them. in Andhra out of the 8 md radiology seats awarded by the ntr university each year, only 2 (in osmania college) are recgd by mci. same situation in most branches in many colleges. but at the time of counselling none sees whether his seat is recgnd or not, and takes whatever branch he gets.

it appears to be a fair opportunitiy - as nowadays many indian docs r going to other countries like nepal, china, Russia to pursue pg courses with many troubles; and this course which is much similiar one which can be done in their homeland itself with much comparitively lesser fees. the inthing is that "very very few people know about this" - none even knows when its entrance was conducted. so even if u r not interested inform the same to ur friends, so the interested ones may take it. i know many of the fresh (99) batch students joining the course including those who got good ranks in the various entrances - because of the cut thoat competion and the various unending and ever increasing malpractices in the various entrance exams all over india.

year by year as the competition is increasing, the entry to the pg is becoming more and more narrow. better get in to an opportunity awaiting us. this exam is likely to get tougher in the near future. the fee at the begining was only 3lakhs/ year now increased to 5. the no of students taking the exam is also increasing every year. the next entrance will be next year feb. be in touch with the kathmandu univ website. i will also inform u when the notification comes. in the last entrance all the mcqs r from the all india question bank.

there is no reservation for the nepali students. but u can be sponsored by the gov of nepal if u work in a nepal gov hosp for 3 yrs with a bond for another 5 yrs.

" IMPORTANT ": there r still vacancies in the following branches only: GEN SURGERY, Anaesthesia , OPHTHAL, ENT . but the candidates will be taken only in july. interested ones may contact the office in person ( address given in the begining of the post) in july 1st week. the classes for them will be starting from august. i invite any queries.
good luck.
