Hi

in reply to your query today--

To get into a good or even decent university in the US it isnt absolutely necessary to do any hi funda research. You must have a good GRE score ( 1300 plus) a decent undergraduate GPA ( 3.2 plus) and 3-4 letters of recommendations addressing your potential and aptitude as an ug student and whether u r likely to " make the cut" as a graduate student.

Meaning that u can include any small time project/ seminar/ group discussion/ poster presentation/ -- basically anything remotely academic that u did as a ug student. During ur internship- if u can get your name into any ongoing project say in the dept of Biochemistry / Microbiology / Physiology in your medical college
( assuming that you will be applying to molecular biology/ biomedical sciences)
and if you can corroborate such experience in your letter of recommendation ( LOR) that would perfect.

Of course if you do get involved into an ICMR project that would do no harm to your resume but its not absolutely necessary especially if you are applying to a relatively simple branch like Physiology

More important than all these is your SOP ( a document- generally 2 pages/ 1000-1500 words long that includes everything you have done in your academics and xtra curricular activities - with a main focus on your research experience and your acaedimic achievements) This document alone - if well written ( or badly written as the case maybe) is sufficent to turn the tables

Publication is not all necessary. Just showing some kind of research committment ( like your name - as a assistant in some project -ongoing or past is enough)

hope i answered ur query

Nah !! Nothing experience kind of thing..In my thinking research is meant just to fool US people that the student has interest in the subject but many MEDICOS do it seriously..It depends on you..Do some projects or contribute in some ongoing research..It can really do wondres for you...Which city are you from?

Warm Regards
DiPsItE..

Thank you Dipsite. I appreciate your help. I am in las vegas right now. Doing MPH. I am a research assistant. but my research topics are related to health care administration and are not about clinical research. Do you think that it will still help my cause.

Hmm...Well Clinical Research Experience of USA could have turned tables. Epidemiological Research does help but NOT to a great extent. It simply reflects that you know the basic protocol of Research.

Chill Dude.. Something Is Better Than Nothing...
