i have finished my m.b.b.s. in india, please advise me whether m.p.h. or master of hospital or health administratin is useful as a career.

what is the range of fees we have to pay for these courses.

Nice nick.And a common dilemma too.

Well for starter's u have to identify what is that u want to do or like doing.

MPH and MHA work in different realms altogether. Ultimately I think u want to take up residency.If that's right I think u shud be guided by:

1.Time period of the course.
Ususally MPH and MHA range from 1 1/2 yrs to 2 yrs.Adequate time for u to clear the Steps and pack in good things on ur cv -like USClinical Experience, Audits, Publication, Presentations and Research.And most of all understanding the US pattern of life and the wealth of opportunities opening up there.

2. Fee/Financial Aid/ Scholarship
Go for a College/University where in u might be able to get a tution waiver/assistantships/scholarships.Otherwise u will be fishing out anything between $18000-$44000 depending on the universities u choose.

3. Reputation of the University
For two reasons.One in case u decide to pursue ur career in public health or hispital administration, a degree from a good university under ur belt wud be a safe bet.Secondly the Visa Officer wud be reluctant in giving a visa for a relatively unheard of college with an unclear admission process.

Lastly whether u really want to exercise this option after weighing everything else.

As to ur question regarding which one is better, I don't think anybody else can answer that.U have to decide what u want for urself.If u r looking for a career in US as long as u r passionate and committed towards ur work u will excel at any job and reap in money.I'm saying this cuz I know of few people who had completed PG from major instituitions in India but later decided to settle into a career in public health after MPH because the job was exciting, money was good and the lawsuits weren't there!!

So make a wise pick and move ahead!All the best.
