Quick Scroll FAQ: How to go about USMLE Step 2 CK? 06.25.06 (2 years ago) #1

Hello friends,

Good to see some of my old friends(who had helped a lot in the step 1 section)... I am glad that I have completed the step 1 successfully... Got a good score by God's grace..[snip] icon_smile.gif

Please tell me about these queries

I am planning for the 08 match... and i want to be well prepared for that..

How long before should apply? Is online enough? or is there anything to be sent?
I am facing a problem.... I was thinking of taking dec jan feb slot....but now i understand it's not possible... either i ll have to take oct nov dec or jan feb mar slots.... if i go for the first slot ...there is a danger that i wont finish preperation before that... if i go for the second, then i have to wait for 2007 application materials? What do you say? I prefer the 2nd option, but will the 2007 application materials be drastically different??any idea about the fees? will it be increased for 2007???

Another query is about the visa..... When did you apply for it? should i take a date some where is may 2007 now?I will have to choose chennai consulate...considering the rush there ... should i just take a date now?

and what about the step 2 CS? should i take the date now? where are you taking it ? in phil/chic or some other place? Is there any difference between these places?

THANKS IN ADVANCE
George

hi georgie,

congrats on finishing step1

be patient. 2007 material will be available by end of august.

plan your itinerary

you may schedule your visa appointment around june -july if you are planning to take your CS between july- sept....also check the dates of CS score reporting before you schedule your exam.

just make sure you get to stay in US till feb or thereabouts....since some programs schedule interviews in late jan.

no difference between CS centres...take your pick man....if you are on your own, phily would be better...there are a few missionary hostels around the CS centre....if you have relatives elsewhere, opt for either of the other centres.

check out the 2007 match timeline so you have some clue about how things proceed.

thanks a lot tinker bell,

i was wondering why noone is replying!!

is there an advantage in doing step 3 before interview ...?

how about scheduling 1 month observership before cs? i am planning to take cs in june end and then come back after that....what do u say?

i heard there is no point in doing observerships for more than 1 month?

most ppl in CK forum are either sleeping or studying for the exam...especially the ones planning for the 2007 match are really busy

the most ideal situation is when you have taken all your steps before applying through eras.
step3 before match day is valuable for those interested in the H1 visa.
ideal length of observership is 3 months.1 month is fine.PD`s dont rate you high only on the basis of observer`s.Obs post is especially useful if one is applying in the same hospital or the same medical school
Some institutions require an ecfmg certification before they allow you to do an observer`s post.

A trip for CS and another for interviews will only mean more money spent. You`ll learn much more about how the system works if you stay in US after CS.

Go through the earlier posts.Lot of info is crammed in there.
