FAQ: Target 2008 Match!

Hi there to all those who have given their Step1 &2,
If one wanted to apply for the 2008 Match, what would be the dead lines, to give the steps, so that one had ample amount of time, to apply for Match in 2008.
Since, you guys are almost half way done.
Could you plz guide me.Thanks!

the ideal situation for img`s before applying to programs in september is....to have taken step1, step2 ck and step2 cs.
try to take your step1 before this year end.
step2 ck till may-june.
visa interview in june-july
step 2 cs in august or 1st week of september.
try to do your steps sooner if possible....the time frames mentioned above should be your deadlines.

Tinkerbell has said it all... 
To be in d best position, just try to finish step 2 CS AT LEAST before september and as already said, d sooner d better.

yes that would be better, since u normally get visa-s for 6months,
then u can do an observorship in aug-oct, if u get one,
and then run amok for interviews from nov-dec-jan !
whole 6 months utilised.
but u'll have to scramble from india!

actually fresh with FMT so knew abt cannabis poisoning......i liked the word in it where a poisoning could make a guy violent and he would kill his enemy and whoever comes his way then would either surender to police or suicide.
this is 'run amok' of cocaine overdose/abuse.
but in here it means running from pillar to post for a residency then in the end either going for scramble(surrender) or suicide back home.

now cud u help me with this....
i m interested in giving my step 3 too before applying for interviews for i wish to do my residency with a h1b visa.
cud any one throw light on this, please.

dear sandeepsaha,
one is eligible to Register for step3 only after you are certified by ecfmg.
eligibility for ecfmg certification includes clearing step1, step2 ck and step2 cs.
your step3 result should be out by the match day...which is the 3rd thursday of march every year....considering your result takes about a month or so after you have taken your exam, you may take step3 latest by mid-feb....the sooner the better....as it increases your chances of matching with H1B
regarding H1 B, it is difficult to get these days...few programs sponsor it.

thats enlighting. i didn't know this. i have just few more query, cud u tell me how long 2cs results take to b out. for i wish to give my cs and step 3 in the same visit if my visa allows...
n is it sensible to do step 3 before applying. 
n roughly how long sud it take to prepare for it.

hi sandeep,
CS results come out in about 2 month...a detailed time table is given on the ecfmg site....check it out.
prep time differs from person to person...but most ppl say 3-4 months is enough...of course one can study longer if one has that kind of time on hand.
i didnt get your 2nd question...step3 before applying for what?
