I am an IMG but hav greencard .
1)can any 1 tel me, in my situation ,for getting a residency in IM or PSY ,what scores at least i should get in step1 and step2ck?is it 80 or can be less for me?
2)a score of 80 is equal 2 which percntile of correct answers?how can i calculte it?

Hi there,
I am also in the same condition as u are. I m IMg with Green card and checked out my option. Its same in gettin residency. Only advantage u have is u don't need Visa so u r free to apply at colleges which doesn't offer H1B or J-1...
But gettin a good score is altogether required. I am checking out Residency programs nowadays and most IM Program have a minimal requirement of 85+ and first time pass. some even go above 90 in their choosing aspect. So don't think of 80 aim higher.
Don't know much about Psychiatry . and yeah therehave been cases with low marks and people gettin into surgery. So ur selection also depends on ur experience/research etc etc. in short ur CV.
80 percentile is approx 190-195.. maybe more. it varies according to year. just be sure u get around 210-220 .. this is very gud score. plus u should have a good CV to get into a good place.
anyways I am not an expert at this. Just was givin u my View. let some experts answer on this Topic. they might be able to help u better..

do u know the easiest majors for residency?is it IM or the others?what about family med?
nd also i donna know USMLE exams hav negative point 4 negativ answers or not?

anyways.. about residency..
Psychiatric programs, IM, Family Medicine, Pedia, are some of the easy ones to get. Also include Physiotherapy and other lines.
but easy means if u have good marks..or a very good CV. but u can also get into surgery and things if u r already there and make up good experience in USA. Suregry is easy. anyways best of luck.

i gave Step 1 first. i read from Kaplan boks and lectures DVD, which i borrowed from a friend. thats all and i guess thas it its enough..

didnt you read first aid for step1?
by the way , what are the disadvantages of attending ck before step1(if there are some disadvantages)because i am aresident and ck is easier now to study simultaneously.

First AID is very good book.. but i read it after i finished the course once.. it gives a TWEAK to ur preparation.
i also read NMS review Q&A.. A&L q.a, Board stimulator series Q&A, and BRS for patho and micro..
and UCV for all subjects..
did Behavioral science 3 times. other sub 2 times.. no DVD lectures only reading..
yeah for u i guess Step 2 CK will b better.. not much problem with gicing step 2 before step 1.. there might some question related to Step 1. but they might be easy and very few.. but read First aid for Step 1 while studying for STEP 2CK. u will review atleast whats important..
but its ur choice after all..
