i' m sure about this : i.v. thiopentone is not painful, nr does thiopentone cause muscular excitement.
however, point to note is that:
thiopentone is a poor analgesic
thiopentone is a weak muscle relaxant.

so, either the answer given in the guide is wrong or some printing mistake in the question.

Indeed if thiopentone given in inadequate dose..it will decrease the pain threshold and induce the hyperalgesia....more pain is felt...

1 can u give a reference for the above statement?
2 the question does not mention anything about inadequate dose of thiopentone.

Hellow lady,
I m not denying ur answer..I m just supporting ur answer and adding a few remarks which is most important.....
Well,in Lee's Synopsis of Anaesthesia[11 th edition],chapter no.9,section 2...chapter name'intravenous anaesthetic agents'.page no:160,
Go to barbiturates-->Thiopentone Sod.-->pharmacodynamics-->The CNS-->first paragraph last line....exact words r like this ''THIOPENTONE IN DOSES INSUFFICIENT TO CAUSE UNCONSCIOUSNESS IS 'ANTANALGESIC',AND THIS SENSITIVITY TO PAIN LASTS INTO THE POSTOPERATIVE PERIOD."

So don't think I m contradicting u...This is a very much imp point to mention here according to me..and I just mentioned it...
U r right IV thiopentone does not cause pain at the "injection site" unlike propofol...Propofol is painful on iv injection if not preceded by iv lignocaine.
So it is basically the pain at IV SITE in this question and wht I hv mentioned is the general pain threshold...
I guess U got my point...
