hello saurav
first thing dont panic.
i think u r reading without understanding.becoz if u read something and understand it well then u will have confidence in that chapter.
so first cover the book without cramming, and by understanding the concept, mechanism etc.
after that at the end u can cram or make mnemonics of the difficult things.
i agree drug names require memory and cramming
but there r easy ways.
just get familiar with those drugs everyday.
see the classification every now and then and u will never find it difficult.
also make a list of those imp chapters, whose classsification is frequently asked.
memorise them.
(it is all for exam becoz the truth is that most of
us forget everything after the exam)

Hi Saurav,
Understanding is the key to remembering. Recently I came accross "Principles of Pharmacology" by HL Sharma and KK Sharma(published by <-snip->). It is excellent in explanation and builds on strong fundamentals. Reading it will make pharmacology smooth sailing. Do have a look at the book.

hi fellas, i think what matters most is to understand why & how a drug really fits into the physiological picture.having said that we must know about its mechanism and relative physiology to that aspect.so apart from all the cramming , i would suggest you to go through a book namely : principles of pharmacology by david golan (of course indian edition).see "if you are really keen to learn pharmacology in its very basic form" i think this is book worth looking at .absolutely a pleasure to read. so smart.you would literally feel like you are understanding something in pharmacology.what a wonderful book.i am a big fan.KDT is nowhere near this book . see it yourself before hating me.thanks.

nopes krish it would never work
hi krish ,cramming in pharma should be restricted to memorize the drugs & their classification and more or less to their mechanism of action.you should try to understand the pharma by concepts.why and how the drug gets fit into the physiological picture.only cramming would lead you becoming a dumb student in pharma and that's a great loss .

i think u must know about receptors and thr location ,than u memoryz the drug for specific receptor
like - alpha1 receptors are located in the vessels if we give the alpha1 stimulator like phenylephrine than resut will be vesoconstriction.

Read all those classifications aloud and have it recorded on your smart phone.. Hear it every now and then.. Once you get confident in remembering them , u can easily move on to the more complicated ones like MoA , Adv Effects etc.,

LINKING METHOD: take each list of drugs to be memorised
create strong non-repetitive easily recognizable visual symbol for a distinct/memorable syllable of each drug-name. [shorthand for each name]
create a vivid, exaggerated, rediculous image associating 2 symbols to form a storng link in your mind. [to easily recall the next symbol in the link]
draw a cartoonish diagram or put it in words to from a story. [for revising]
