Quick Scroll Tips: Confused About How To Study?? Ask Me ! 10.01.06 (1 year ago) #1

Hi !
I wanted to start a thread where anybody who is preparing for PG can post in his/her queries or confusions or anything related to the prepartion and I or anybody who wishes to,would try to answer with best of my or his/her efforts. This idea was churning in my mind for quite some time and I was undecided over it because wasnt sure how would the rxpgians in west bengal forum will see this proposal.. Then i thought that why dont just do it and see how u ppl go with the idea.
I really want to help those preparing in their studies coz I know the trying times one goes through after internship and before he/she gets a PG seat.
For short detail;I am doing MS Ophthal.at kolkata through AIPG 2006.

So..I am hoping that I would be of some help to You .

Even the hardest of the optimists are not sure they will succeed or not if they look inside them. Its the Time Of Confusion and if somebody finds himself confused about how to study more and well or what would be the result in the mid february;then its quite natural to feel so.
In mid october when those really studying hard are revising their syllabus or at least have complted once the whole thing,to be confused about ways of improving or simpaly how to keep going till jan is not unusual. However one must realise that studied how well u may have during last few months, the result is going to depend upon how well and better u study during these 'wee months'.
U need to revise the old stuff again.may feel like u remember all or nothing new u may find to read.. then squeez out just two or three hours of ur study schedule, take a new question bank which is concise, small and dependable in answers;and solve it.Solve something new, then u will find some new questions which u will not be able to answer. and that sholud be enough of a stimulus for a focussed student/aspirant to ring the warning bell. That should suffice in letting him understand that he must keep on studying, must keep on revising and that he will forget in two months time from now ,what he does remember so well at present. So perseverence is all it needs.
This practice of solving a new question bank is just an adjunct to ur study and not more than two or three hours should be alloted to it from ur 12+ hours study schedule per day. May even arrange for a mock test daily at ur home! solve old papaers of different exams in exam-like condition and then score just like exam to see how u r going. this will be fun and also reduce ur exam anxiety,if any.
Scoring 63+ or 60+ percent in bhatiya continuously is a sign that u have been studying well, but it just means that! What i want to say is,it shows u "have been" studying well, some thing retrospective. similaraly when u will appear in bhatiya or any other mock at december end it will again show how u "have been" studying in past few months! and the those past few months are Now! Marks can dip or rise depending upon how u study during nov.and december. Same will be in AIPG.
Persevernce is The Key.

well if u can give me a total idea about all the subjects it will be helpful though it is asking to much.well this is officially my third attempt but actually i started preparing for the exams seriously for only a few months due certain turn of events that still haunts me.so u can expect me as a fresher.another problem is that there r no people available for now to make a group, and as u understand and as u have emphasized in one of ur writings ,am deprived of a valuable advantage.

The scheme of things remains the same for anybody starting preperations afresh.I am giving an outline of the whole thing

Solve and search the answers of the AAA(total),MK and Gupta-Tripathi in ur books.
Mark the answers of all the questions from above Q banks in ur standard text bks.

it will take around 4 to 5 months.

Read the topics u have marked in the books.
And solve above question banks again(and again).

this is an outline.further there are many modifications, additons, deletions etc based on the personal choice/capability/time available etc.

U have done those q banks(found in another thread where u have written) Dont know hw much theory u have read. Now there is no time left for reading theories afresh. For AIPG 2007 its the time for revision. So u just keep on reading and memorising those q banks and see.. whether u still can read some theory too(of the subjects u think u r weak in). Its really very tough to clear AIPG without good deal of theory(for an avarage student and its my personal experience). However state PG exam can still be cleared with good ranks without much of reading theory and strong command over mcqs.
Best of Luck!

I think AAA is still gold standard

ZIP CU has lots of wrong answers. There is one another book whose name i dont remember rt now. but the problem with this second book is that many questions in it were never ever asked in WBPGMAT !! They have just given them there to fill the space but they are not really the question from WBPG.
What i had done was that i had managed to obtain old ZIP CU from a senior of mine who had 11 rank in the previous year and then had corrected the answers in the new book i had baught. it can be done.
However will let u know the name of the second book too as soon as i get to know.

Best of Luck!
