One of the basic science one must master to be a good doctor is Anatomy .

However, I along with many others feel that we are being taught Anatomy during the first year that in often not clinically oriented.

It is only when we start the clinical years that we start to make sense of some of the stuff we crammed earlier.

I believe that we are taught too much Anatomy for our own good that we can't tell the trees from the forest.

How much Anatomy do we need to learn ? I know I definitely wont be able to remember all that I have learnt.

i agree.....
i have gone through the problem based system. my Anatomy knowledge is weak. i know enough clinical Anatomy to get through.

i guess pure Anatomy knowledge has long faded as one of the unessentials.

Anatomy is very volatile...... u need to revise each chapter at least once a month to get thru...

but i think its clinical aspect is going to help in later practice....... after all it forms the bases of knowledge for the human body...

as a fresher..... i fell Physiology is most important ....but with a good knowlege of Anatomy .... it can rock!!

biochem is fine..... nothing so special about it... except for that lippincott is a gr8 book

what makes Anatomy theoretical is BDC.
Books like Snell & Gray's Student version lay so much emphasis on clinical side.....

Human Anatomy forms foundation of medical science. so the more u understand more it is better. remember you are going to be a professional, not a just a degree holder! there is no limit of Anatomy knowledge, but as an UG you must have the concepts and relations crystal clear in your mind.Ultimately that is the one which is going to make you a great surgeon!BDC is a book meant for revising the Anatomy before examination so that you can write answers in a systematic way.
I would say that your skill in antaomy must be developed to 100% so that even through a laparoscope with limited vision and exposure you must be able to identify structures.Spend as many hoursd as possible in the dissection hall and get the feel of structures!your fingertips must be trained in identifying a structures with eyes closed!
This is how much you need antomy!! icon_biggrin.gif
