Pt. 27 years, known to have manic trouble for many years, is brought to the ER. Agitated & excited. What is the most appropriate treatment ?

a. -Carbamazepine
b. -Imipramine
c. -Clonazepam
d. -Lorazepam
e. -Phenelzine

No Imipramine, in acute mania we have to stop all antidepressant as they raise the mood further, so Super Guru no imipramine.

He needs lorazepam initially to help with his agitation then any mood stabiliser can be tried, out of the choices given here carbamazapine is the one to go ahead with. In real practice i would prefer semi sodium valproate.

lorazepam
if mania with psychotic symptoms then an intipsychotic would be better choice , but with mania and agitation lorazepam is tha answer as lorazepam is short acting as is used in rapid tranquilization
